Other joysticks and the Steam Controller

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm the lucky owner of a steam controller. However, I also have a good old Saitek AV8R joystick too which I prefer for flying planes in KSP. However, if the steam controller is detected by KSP, it seems to override any joystick settings in the game and only allow me to use the controller. In the settings menu it shows as "not found" for axes I've set on my Saitek. Ideally I'd like to swap between the two but really I should just be able to use the Saitek without unplugging the Steam controller. Any ideas how I'd achieve this?

Thanks.

Maybe you can try the advanced fly-by-wire mod for ksp, that greatly improves the input handling of ksp, inlcluding the support of multiple devices at once.

Or (and/or) take a look at the Universal Joystick Remapper for Windows, that can map two physical input devices into one logical device. But maybe the Steam Controller is not that suited for this program, as the steam controller is more than just a stick.

Oooh! I like the look of the AFBW mod. I'll just go install it...

KSP's current controller handling is poor, sorry, it can require a couple of restarts with previously bound controllers attached before it correctly assigns them.

The first time you start KSP after attaching a controller it doesn't have any controllers listed in the settings.cfg, only past bindings if any, so it doesn't assign any controls to the controller then adds that controller to the settings.cfg as a known device.

The second time you start KSP with the controller still attached it sees it in the settings.cfg then assigns any bindings that were made for that controller.

Yes it's a bad system and should be fixed for 1.1

Thanks for the update. The AFBW mod seems to be a good solution in the meantime.

Looking forward to 1.1!
