I don't use any updated AIES install - I have old version with some new code to repair animations:

The Atlas launch vehicle family is one of my favorite. So let's spam this thread with some of the variants, starting with the Atlas LV-3C Centaur:

good replica...

And it is still missing a lot. Proper avionics pods and conduits, along with a better paint job are only some of the things that require improvement. But i am trying to keep them "RO - stock" (i.e. no custom parts or textures) so it will suffice for now.

@Phineas Freak Very nice! Where did you get that nice bottom plate you put on the Centaur stage?

I just built this rocket for a flyby mission to Saturn with a Jupiter gravity assist. I also intend to use the same rocket to all the other future flyby missions beyond Jupiter.  It has 4x H-1/RS-27 as main engine and 4x LR-101 Vernier engines for attitude control on the 1st Stage, a J-2 Engine on the 2nd stage, a LE-5 Engine and 4x LR-101 vernier engines used again on the kick stage, their gimbal and high vectoring range provide a very steady alignment with the burning node even at high acceleration. The payload weights 339 kg

Here is some picture from the test launch in simulation:

Just a little update from the actual mission: The TJI went smooth and the spacecraft is en route to Jupiter and with a slight correction maneuver, to Saturn:

My low-tech manned moonshot in RP0 career (January 1957). One man kerbal to the Moon surface and back.

Launcher "Triumph":

3 stages: 11 E-1 (USA) engines on 1-st stage; 5 RD-108 (USSR) on 2-nd stage and 1 RD-108 engine on 3-rd stage.

Payload to LEO - 44t; payload after TLI - 14.2t

Start mass - 1368t

There, that's one of my favourite lunar launchers from now on. One: it looks awesome, that's a wonderful take on the "four engines around a single engine" cluster. Two: it isn't completely based on N1s or Saturn Vs. No F1 first stage and J2 second and third stage. Well done.

Which one are you?

The Lavochkins are very great, in my opinion. All I want is a gun platform that doesn't wobble.

But we digress. This is an RO thread after all.

my first attempt at making a "real" blueprint, technically this isnt an exact replica but to me trying to squeeze everything i can out of a Tiny Tim boosted WAC Corporal, built with starting parts in RP-0 career, that i can still fully recover:

27aJYnt.png

Can this be improved even more, with starting parts in RP-0 career... without parts burning up/breaking off and fitting inside test flights time limits, still allowing full recovery? please suggest/improve if possible... maybe body/nose shaping ... i'm stuck at this point.

edit: maybe fueling the winglets/fins and trimming body tank abit could save a few Kg's?

I'm thinking you should make this more aerodynamic, using structural fairings. But this looks very nice for a sounding rocket.

I see people still reply to this! Let's keep it up.
