Hmm, is it just me or does it seem very stuttery from 2:45-3:15 in the video above while the game is rendering the Mun's terrain? The frame rate improves after that, but 30 seconds of jitter seems like rather a lot.

But did you see how fast the game ran after that? I'd rather it render and skip for a second if it made the game run fast and look good.

Does anyone have performance statistics on high part count vessels?

Also, any estimates on the public pre-release?

I'm guessing a week because a week after the Youtuber pre-release it comes out with in 2 weeks.

A few more days at most. I say it's gonna be tomorrow. We'll see.

Tomorow would be good, its a bank holiday. So lots of time getting eaten by the kraken playing the game without worrying about anything.

From what I've seen on the streams the performance increases will be very significant for pretty much everyone.  I like the UI tweaks too.  A few bugs appeared, but that's a good thing, better now than after release.  I don't think the legs sliding down a slope was actually a bug, on a low G body grip is less so sliding downhill gets easier.

Hey guys,

I tried Kerbal a couple of years ago and it's great to see it's come a long way since then, in fact I can't wait to get back into it.

My question is, should I wait for 1.1 or start playing now to learn the it and re-learn when 1.1 comes out? ( I didn't get far before I'm pretty much a n00b)

Thanks, Ellis

Welcome to the forums!  :)

From Squad's announcements thus far, 1.1 is not really adding to or changing gameplay significantly-- it's mainly about upgrading to a new version of the Unity engine.

So although there are a few minor UI fit-and-finish type tweaks, the overall gameplay should be about the same.  So if you want to get a head start by jumping into 1.0.5 right now, I'd say go for it!  Whatever you learn should still be useful in 1.1.

The most obvious improvents are about the performance of very complex ships and using multiple GB of mods. So I don't think there is much you're missing by starting with 1.0.5.

This may not count for your statistics, but EJ_SA's (a Twitch streamer) super high part count monstrosities take around 30 minutes real time from launch to reaching orbit in 1.0.5.  Yesterday during his segment of the KSPTV 1.1 marathon, those same vessels took 8 minutes to reach orbit in 1.1, and that's with v-sync turned on.  The performance increase in 1.1 is REAL and it is amazing.

The two times any kind of lag appeared was when he switched to his 550+ part space station which had two Dreamchaser-like craft docked to it, and using phys warp brought things back to real time--he was even able to dock one of the Dreamchasers in phys warp.  The other instance was when he switched to his massive Mun base with multiple separate components totalling over 1200 parts in all.  Some of the parts though had landing gear on them, and when he went into phys warp, it summoned the Kraken. :D

The Hype Train is in overdrive!

You know? The 64-bit thing, and improved performance and loading times.

If you add the content of an update into the earlier version, then it's an updated version.

Just doesn't make sense...

Finally!

Looking at the streams it appears that the one reason i stopped playing KSP recently is finished.  Time to begin the massive 2000+ part count battles ive always dreamt of doing in this game!  It looks like i can easily run ~500 parts per vessel, and have multiple vessels loaded at a time.  Given that i avoid massive part counts on a single warship, the multicore will be perfect for me since each warship will be on its own thread.  And with teh general across the board improvements, it appears that i can even afford to have a full squadron of escort fighter per capital ship.

While i appreciated every update thusfar, this update makes every update after 1.0 look like garbage.

Long live massive part counts with no (err more reasonable levels of) lagfest!
