Project Pallas, Year 1, KSC

Project Pallas was a series of missions launched at KSC to perform various experiments on technologies from Kerbin in orbit. The project consisted of three missions.

Pallas-1:

Pallas-1 brought a few old computers from mission control into orbit, just to test how they work in space. Surprisingly, they didn't explode. Pallas-1 also had Bill Kerman operate a small robotic arm on the outside of the Pallas ship. The mission was a success, delivering the first Kerbal into space!

Duration: 14 Hours, 7 Minutes, 56 Seconds

Crew Size: 1, Bill Kerman

Regime: Low Kerbin

Perigee: 86 kilometres

Apogee: 243 kilometres

Outcome: Mission success!

Pallas-2:

Pallas-2 used the same technology and systems as Pallas-1. The spacecraft was piloted by Bill and Bob Kerman, and was supposed to orbit Kerbin for at least 5 days, but unfortunately, the cabin depressurized as the spacecraft was performing its orbit burn, killing Bill and Bob. The failure of the mission had Kerbals all around Kerbin questioning if space exploration was safe. The depressurized craft burnt up in the atmosphere, and only chunks of the ship were recovered.

Duration: 12 Minutes, 26 Seconds

Crew Size: 2, Bill Kerman, Bob Kerman

Regime: Low Kerbin

Perigee: 121 kilometres

Apogee: 32 kilometres

Outcome: Mission failure!

Pallas-3

Pallas-3 was a more reinforced version of the Pallas-1 and 2 spacecraft. It featured more advanced pressure seals, a more stable engine, and three seats! Pallas-3 launched three Kerbals into space, Jebidiah Kerman, Domon Kerman, and Valentina Kerman. Unfortunately, Domon Kerman was lost during an EVA. An error occurred with the liquid-cooling system in Domon's suit, and his helmet began to flood. Domon became the first Kerbal to drown to death in space. Jebidiah and Valentina returned home safely after an early re-entry was scheduled. The death of Bill, Bob, and Domon brought the Pallas program to an end, as the technologies being used on the missions were no longer considered safe. Valentina and Jeb splashed down in the ocean east of KSC, and were recovered shortly after.

Duration: 3 Days, 2 Hours, 53 Minutes, 11 Seconds

Crew Size: 3, Jebidiah Kerman, Domon Kerman, Valentina Kerman

Regime: Low Kerbin

Perigee: 174 kilometres

Apogee: 306 kilometres

Outcome: Semi-success!

Man, I know spaceflight is a risky business, but it's a shame them three had to go. Rest in peace, brave Kerbals.

A shame indeed. Your Spacetime Oddity mission post actually inspired me to write this one up, I thought it was pretty cool. :P
