This thread had it's origin  in Just Jim's ongoing 'Saga of Emiko Station' (which is far, far from over, and getting further from over even as we speak!) You need to read it. It's ok.  I'll wait.

Awesome, isn't it?  and when Jim intro'd a sinister sentient rover vehicle, KSK was inspired to pen this:

_______________________________________________________________________________________

[(included with the author's  encouragement...that does count as permission....doesn't it...?)

Ohhhh - he's been a mad rover on Bop's rugged shores.

Spent all his sanity, gobbling down ore.

Now nickel ain't bad but blutonium's best.

Blowing up Kerbin t'was only in jest.

And it's no, naaaaay, never.

No, nay, never no more,

Will he be the mad rover

On old Bop's rugged shor]

________________________________________________________________________________________

So I proposed we HAD to start a thread in Fan Works of KSP inspired songs!  an KSK and Just Jim agreed, it was a great idea.

No. seriously, they really did.   Honest!

Ummm....where'd they go...?

oh well....

So.....without further ado....(or would that be much ado about nothing..?)

In the town where I was born, lived a Ker-r-bal with mighty brains,

And he thrilled us with his plans, to go soar-r-ing in rocket planes,

So we built the KSC, and with Doc Von K to set the pace,

We collected delta-vee, and we built the first step into space!

We all live on the first step into space....

First step into space.....first step into space....(repeat)

And our friends have all signed on, many more of them than we've got ships,

So we build them night and day, to accommodate that many trips,

As we blast into the sky, carried on by our guts and wits,

You can't win unless you try, even if you blow yourself to bits!

We all live for that first step into space...

First step into space.....first step into space...... (repeat)

Now the Mun is all we see,  and we'll ge-et there.....eventually!

Out from home we Kerbals race, on our fir-r-st steps out into space!

We all live on our first steps into space....

First steps into space....first steps into space....(repeat as many times as you can get away with.)

(sung to a popular song by Paul McKerman performed by the Keebles.  I forget the title....)

Before anyone says anything, yes I know the second verse contains an instrumental break...but most of us don't travel in the company of a military brass band.

It's ungodly how much they eat, and they tend to get inappropriate on long road trips.  Just saying.

Would a mildly military brass band do? I've got one of those, and will at some point contribute the various songs of Kerbfleet's proud branches of service :)

But for starters, I think this one might be of more general interest. It first appeared in Duna, Ore Bust! along with a crudely shopped picture of "Simon and Kerbfunkel" as the crew of Hummlebee were completing their historic mission and burning for home. The basis is of course "Homeward Bound", by Simon and Garfunkel.

Kerbin Bound

I'm up in solar orbit, high
Got a year 'til Kerbin SOI, mmm...
On a tour of airless lands
My spacesuit on and stick in hand
And every orbit's neatly planned
For a spaceship and a four-kerb band...
Kerbin bound

I wish I was--Kerbin bound
Home! Where my ship's escapin'
Home! Where I'm aerobrakin'
Home! Where the runway's waitin'
Silently for me

Every sol's an endless stream
Of year-old snacks and hydrazine, mm-hmm...
And each world looks the same to me
The craters and the gravity
And each maneuver node I see
Reminds me that I long to be--
Kerbin bound

I wish I was--Kerbin bound
Home! Where my ship's escapin'
Home! Where I'm aerobrakin'
Home! Where the runway's waitin'
Silently for me

Tonight I'll EVA again
I'll get the science and pretend, mm-hmm...
But all that data does for me
Is fill up someone else's tree
This emptiness is killin' me
I need to feel some gravity--
Kerbin bound

I wish I was--Kerbin bound
Home! Where my ship's escapin'
Home! Where I'm aerobrakin'
Home! Where the runway's waitin'
Silently for me

To the tune of Hotel California by the Eagles.

Planet Eve, Kerb I Warn Ya

On a dark cosmic byway, in a small can of air
Cold threat of the vacuum, keeping me so aware.
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a great purple spot
I made a node as I hit the rim, and a correction did plot

There she hung in the darkness, shrouded in purple gloom
And I was thinking to myself "This could be glory or this could be doom."
She was lit up from Kerbol in a bright purple day
There were voices on communicator, I thought I heard them say...

No return from planet Eve kerb I warn ya
Such a purple place (such a purple place)
Such a heavy space
Plenty of wrecks on planet Eve kerb I warn ya

Every second year (every second year)
There's a Hohmann here

She's got Rockomax bits all twisted, Kerbodyne parts with bends.
There were a lot of pretty, pretty craft - all met dead ends.
Kerbals wander the surface, full of regret,

Some walk to remember, some walk to forget.

So I called up the Kaptin, "Please get Gene on the line."
He said "We've been
stranding landing Kerbals here since year two day three fifty nine."
And still those voices were calling from far away
I woke from hibe in the middle of the flight, just to hear them say...

No return from planet Eve kerb I warn ya
Such a purple space (such a purple space)
Such a sticky place
They live a long time on planet Eve kerb I warn ya
You're stuck on the ground (you're stuck on the ground)
Bring your rover down

Two G's on the surface, five atmo thick air.
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, look around and despair."

And in combustion chambers fuel and ox are released
The engine lights with a fiery blast, b
ut it just can't lift the beast.

Last thing I remember, I was planning an ascent
I had to find a trajectory back from the purple place I went.
"Relax." said Gene Kerman, "You are landed on Eve."
"You can EVA any time you like.  But you can never leave."

Happy landings!

eta: Kerbin Bound is awesome!  I had forgotten how good it is.

Hey Enzin, sung to the tune of Hey Porter, by Johnny Cash:

Hey enzin! Hey enzin! Would you tell me the time?

How much longer will it be till we cross that Kerbin SOI? At engine stop would you tell that kaptin to turn on SAS? Or better still, just EVA cause I wanna look around.

Hey enzin! Hey enzin! What time did you say?

How much longer will it be till I can see the Munshine? When we hit Minmus will you tell that kaptin to turn off the hibe units? And ask everybody that ain't in hibe to stand right up and yell.

Hey enzin! Hey enzin! We're going into kerbol light.

This old ship is moving fast, and I have to strain my eyes. But ask that kaptin if he will chilldown LOX please. Cause I see Kerbin floating there and I feel that Kerbol heat.

Hey enzin! Hey enzin! Please get my bags for me.

I need nobody to tell me now that we're in LKO. Go tell that kaptin to make that lonesome engine roar, we're not so far from home so take it easy on the throttle.

Hey enzin! Hey enzin! Please open up the airlock.

When the parachutes collapse I'm gonna get off first, cause I can't wait no more. Tell that kaptin I said thanks a lot, and I didn't mind the recycled air. I'm gonna set my feet on Kerbin soil and breathe that Kerbin air.

Great one by @Mad Rocket Scientist! And here's another from the Kerb In Black. I used it as traveling music when Bill drove his rover to the Dipperkraft crash site, on Eve. From "Folsom Prison Blues", Johnny Cash.

Eve Midland Blues

I hear the rover comin, it's blastin 'round the bend
And I'm seein' purple sunshine since I don't know when
I'm stuck here on Eve Midlands, and time keeps draggin' on
But that rover keeps on rollin' on down to bring me home

When I was just an enzin
Gene done told me son
Don't ever play with boosters,
Don't ever launch with Thuds
But I shot a kerb to Eeloo
Just to watch him fly
When I hear those engines firin',
I hang my head and cry

Thankfully, I was not drinking coffee at the time, else you'd owe me a new keyboard. :D Good job!

Oh - and with apologies to Michael Stipe:

Kerbin spinning on the edge of the night.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
My capsule drifts towards the morning light.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Life support, parachutes - and boosters I guess.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Feeling pretty happy that we aint made a mess.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Now, Lodan* did you hear about this one?
Tell me, are you watching us, son.
Hey, Lodan - we aint goofing off early.
Not when we're having fun!

And you'd better believe,
We'll put a kerb' on the Mün!

A kerb' on the Mün.

And you'd better believe; there's plenty up here to see!
And all of it's cool...

Last one before bed! With grateful thanks to Sir Nahme who wrote the original and let me include it in my fanfic. Good kerbals, I give you - the Ballad of Kerbal 1!

At first I was afraid. I was petrified...
Thought we would never make it back, if we let Jebediah drive.
And so I spent oh so many nights, thinking what could all go wrong.
But I got onboard - and I brought parachutes along...

And now we're back! From the edge of space.
I rode shotgun on the launch with my friend Bill in the far left place.
We saw the Mün. We saw the stars.
And we even made it home without too many scars!

Oh yeah we're back. From the edge of space!
We soared across the sky - and you should have seen Jeb's face.
We saw the Mün. We saw the stars.
Even if the capsule seat, got imprinted on my...

My version of "Homeward bound":

I'm sittin' in the floating capsule,

Got some fuel for my deorbit.

On a tour among the stars, my supplies and science in hand.

And ev'ry ship is neatly stocked, for a pilot and some friends!

Homeward bound!

I know I am, Homeward bound!

Home where my snacks are waiting!

Home where my couch is sitting!

Home where my life is waiting, down there in the world!

And a kerbalized "I've been working on the railroad":

I've been working on the Mun Base,

All the six-hour day

I've been working on the Mun Base,

Just to pass the time away!

Can't you feel the rockets launching,

Fly up so early in the morn'

Can't you read the memos saying,

"Bill, go mine some ore!"

Bill won't you go,

Bill won't you go,

Bill won't you mine some ore?

Bill won't you go,

Bill won't you go,

Bill won't you mine some ore?

Someone's in the lab with Bob now,

Someone's in the lab I know,

Someone's in the lab with Bob now,

Cleanin' up the myst'ry goo!

Hummin' fee fie fiddly-i-o,

Fee fie fiddly-i-o-o-o-o,

Fee, fie, fiddy-i-o,

Cleanin' up the myst'ry goo!

OK.  Here's another old-timer type song.  To the tune of King of the Road by Roger Miller.

King of the Void

Spaceships for sale or rent
Bargain prices - scratch and dent
No deals for rookies or vets
I ain't got no turbojets

One trash can full-o-boom
Might take you up to vacuum
I'm a kerb of means by no means
King of the void

Third transfer, changing plane
Destinations in my brain
Old worn out Kerbfleet struts
Ever since the budget cuts

I burn old boosters I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a kerb of means by no means
King of the void

I know every engineer of every spaceplane
All the controllers, and all of their names
I know every free snack at every stop
And every craft that ain't nailed down from Moho to Bop

I sing,
Spaceships for sale or rent...

Happy landings!

Oh, I love that one--thanks for reminding me of it! I'll put up another from the Eve, Order Zero traveling music archive. I know I said I was going to leave the comics in the comics, but I was so proud of the kerbalized picture of the artist (sometimes known as, "The Artist"), I'm going to post it here. From Purple Rain, Prince.

siS6exD.png

Purple Terrain

I never meant to leave you stranded
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted one time to see you driving--
I only want to see you driving
On purple terrain

Purple t’rain, purple terrain
Purple t’rain, purple terrain
Purple t’rain, purple terrain
I only want to be here driving
On purple terrain

I never meant to steal
so many spaceships
I only did it for a friend
I promise, I won’t ever steal another
It’s such a shame
this mission has to end

Purple t’rain, purple terrain
Purple t’rain, purple terrain
Purple t’rain, purple terrain
I only want to be here driving
On purple terrain

OK, I thought of this a couple days ago...

This one goes out to @SpaceplaneAddict and obviously the Eagles.....

Dresperado

Dresperado, why don't you get no attention?
You've gotten no mention for so long now
Oh, you're a small one
I know that you're still a planet
These folks that are ditchin' you
Ignore you somehow

Don't you go to Eve or Tylo, boy
They'll crush you if they're able
You know that Duna's sands were always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some Dres-deriods
Are ringed around your middle
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Dresperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no 'teention
No word and no mention, none callin' you home
And stations, oh space stations, that's just some kerbals talkin'
You're quietly walking thru space all alone

Don't your canyon get cold in the eclipse time?
Jool won't show and Eve won't shine
It's hard to tell the planets from the rest
You're loosin' all your apathy
Ain't it funny how you feel that you're the best?

Dresperado, why don't you want no attention?
Don't look for some mention, just open the gate
It may be quiet, but there's a spaceship above you
You better let some kerbals love you, before it's too late

An obligatory, but of course fun, "Space Oddity" remake:

Ground control to Major Jeb,

Ground Control to Major Jeb,

Eat your snacks and put your helmet on.

Ground Control to Major Jeb,

Commencing countdown, Engines on.

Check your boosters and may Krakens ignore you.

This is Ground Control to Major Jeb,

You've really made the grade,

And all the papers want to know whose snacks you eat,

Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare.

"This is major Jeb to Ground Control,

I'm stepping through the door,

And I'm floating in a most peculiar way,

And the stars look very similar today,

For here am I,

Sitting in a tin can.

Far above the world,

Planet Kerbin's blue,

And there's so much I could do...

Though I've passed one hundred thousand times,

I'm feeling very still

And the capsule doesn't know what's going on.

I'm missing snacks so very much," WE KNOW!!

Ground control to Major Jeb,

Your probe core's dead, there's something wrong,

Can you hear me Major Jeb?

Can you hear me Major Jeb?

Can you hear me Major Jeb?

Can you "Here am I, floating in my tin can,

Far above the Mun.

Planet Kerbin's Blue,

and there's so much I can do."

(Just a note: This was supposed to be a simple orbital flight)

Ahh dangit, you beat me to it, RocketSquid!

It doesn't riff on the original as well as your version but here's my slightly self-indulgent take on that classic.

Ground Control to Kerbal 1,
Ground Control to Kerbal 1,
Finish those snacks and put your helmets on.

9…8…7…

Ground Control to Kerbal 1,
Commencing countdown, engine on.

5…4…3…

Light the Trashcans and may strength of Kerm be with you…

This is Ground Control to Kerbal 1!
Tell us, are you guys OK?
Telemetry died, thought you’d had your day!
And did Bill pack his camera by the way?

This is Kerbal 1 to Ground Control!
We’re wedged into our seats,
Not floating in any particular way!
But the stars look very different today…

For here we are, sitting in a tin can...
High above the world.
Planet Kerbin’s blue and we wish you were here too.

Though we’ve only passed ‘bout twenty miles,
We’re falling through the sky,
And we’re hoping that the parachutes will open.
Tell the team, they did their best, we know...

Ground Control to Kerbal 1,
We see your chutes;  you’re comin’ home!
Hang in there, Kerbal 1.
Hang in there, Kerbal 1.
Hang in there, Kerbal 1.

Hang in there…

For there you were,
Sitting in a tin can,
Long, long way to the Mün…
But planet Kerbin’s blue, and we’re gonna see it too.

So, this one was supposed to go in the end of Chapter 7. I was going to have Captin Val get on the ship's address system and give a speech about the "dangerous game" they were playing against the Unknown, and how Intrepid was about to "sail into history!" Then Sarge was going to stand up and start singing the first lines of this song. Then everyone else joins in, with parts sung by various members of the crew, going down to KSC and having characters there join in in the biggest musical number ever seen in a Kerbfleet comic--until finally we pan away to reveal that someone has been hiding in the Intrepid's "baffles" the whole time, listening.

But it didn't work. It would have been too long, too much. So much for my big Hunt For Red October parody. But here's the Kerbfleet anthem in its entirety. You might want to put the music on in the background while you read it.

Fleet Anthem of the Kerbin Federation

For Kerbfleet! We go into space, everlasting
For Science! We journey to worlds strange and new!
To find what is out there, we’ll search every biome
And on each one plant our flag bright and blue!

There’s so much that we want to know!
Our mission is to ‘boldly go’!
Kerbfleet, O Kerbfleet! Your banner we raise!
Though many dangers we will find,
We’ll never leave our friends behind!
Bring them all home, and we’ll launch once again!

With Scientists brilliant and Engineers clever
And Pilots with mad skills for air, land and void!
We won’t ever stop ‘til we’ve learned every secret
Of planets and moons, suns and huge asteroids!

(chorus)

We’ll go there in spaceplanes, we’ll go there in rockets,
And where we can’t go we’ll send probes in our place!
Our missions are epic and knowledge is awesome--
Now rush to the launchpad, once more into space!

(chorus)

Hey! No one told me that this thread was here!

@Mad Rocket Scientist , is this the song you were referring to?

Sidereal Noon

Be not forsaken, Mister Gregmore
On this launch window da-ay
be not forsaken Mister Greg-more!
Wait, wait alone

Though you know not what flight awaits you
SInce you're Kerbfleet you must be brave
and you will fly the long Dres mission
and be a hero-
a famous hero-

ride home your capsule's sonic wave

Oh, to be stopped by Kenlie Kerman
'fore the Intrepid for Jool'sa burn'n
Look at that spaceship move along,
nearing the node

You made a vow while in you were learnin'
vowed promotions you'd be earnin

you're not afraid of space but Oh! what could you do
if they leave you?

Be not forsaken Mister Gregmore,
fortune and fame will soon be yours!
Be not forsaken Mister Gregmore,
though friends are leavin', and you are grievin'
because you stand on Kerbin's shores

Wait alone,
wait alone.

Wait alone,
wait alone...

A lazy one done to the Firefly opening theme. I'll have to dig through my library to find something that requires a bit more heavy lifting.

---------------------------------------------------

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.

Leave the kerbs where they lay
They'll never see another day
Lost my soul, lost my dream
You can't take the sky from me.

I feel the kraken reach out
I hear its song without a doubt
I still hear and I still see
That you can't take the sky from me.

Lost my love, lost my land
Lost the last place I could stand
There's no place I can be
Since I've found rocketry

And you can't take the sky from me.

Okay, so here's my try at some lyrics for a KSP fan song. Forgive me if the lyrics are a bit shaky since english is not my mother tounge.

(to the tune of "Ebony and Ivory"  by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder)

KSP is fun, you see
no more boredom and dumbness on my screen
launching rockets and spaceplanes from my pad at KSC

We all know
that space is the place where we all want to go
there's SRBs and liquid fuel, landing legs and solar panel power
so let's build a device and shoot it up high

KSP is fun, you see
no more boredom and dumbness on my screen
launching rockets and spaceplanes from my pad at KSC

(break)
KSP - is fun, you see
launching my probes from KSC
KSP - is fun, you see

Duna's glow
is shining through the windows, Jeb's ready to go
open up the hatch and step ahead, plant a flag, bring some precious science back
there's Jool and Eeloo, there's so much to do

KSP is fun, you see
no more boredom and dumbness on my screen
launching rockets and spaceplanes from my pad at KSC
launching rockets and spaceplanes from my pad at KSC

KSP - is fun, you see
launching my probes from KSC
KSP - is fun, you see
launching my crews from KSC
KSP - is fun, you see
launching my probes from KSC
KSP - is fun, you see
launching my crews from KSC
