42 Industries [42i] - Fighter/VTOL .craft files!

Should I remake the Phoenix?

  1. 1. Should I remake the Phoenix?

    • Well clearly messing with it would make it worse
    • Okay... but it will need to be awesome
    • Quit toying with old lame planes and make new ones beetch

Forty-Two Industries

Welcome back people!

One of the world's most exciting corporations has made a comeback, and will soon be creating a new line of vehicles for any occasion.

-Our current focus-

The retreat on our ancestry of vehicles starts a long way's back, and in order to advance, we will have to explore in reverse.

Chapter One - 2011

I started thoroughly expirmenting with planes by slapping on some wings to a rocket. With the less-than-average tools you could use at the time, I came up with a simple (and what I thought at the time was elegant) ship. The Venturer:

I could have sworn that it was the biggest and most awesome ship I would be able to make, but that has failed me too times in my career to keep thinking about.

As funny as it may look, this is where it all began.

There was a long gap between that currently successful ship and my first plane/spaceplane that I have ever made. The first one I created was at the dawn of control surfaces, and from raw trial an error with an hour or two, the constructed ship took flight very easily and smoothly.

The Pegasus was indeed a success.

I then began to fit it with missiles, bombs, and the like. The possibilities seemed virtually endless.

I still consider it to date one of my greatest first attempts and learning experiences, paving the way for even greater things to come.

Shortly after the Pegasus announced completion, I grew found of larger amazing gliders - that dropped bombs, of course! The Phoenix proved to me that fighters aren\'t all that when it comes to pure firepower from above.

My imagination exploded, and many designs came from just this one plane.

Continuation of my fleet solidly expanded quite a bit, with interceptors, heavy fighters, private vehicles, and other random stuff.

The last few additions of the classic 42-I fleet consisted of the Hawk and Falcon variants.

This is when I truely began to understand the mechanics of bigger and better craft made for space... guess where that take us next? ;)

Chapter Two - 2012

Probably the biggest challenge I have encountered in the game. How do I get gigantic ships into orbit on one stage, or even less get it off the launch pad?

Days of trial and error, a series of breakthroughs, and a few shenanigans later, and my works are in space to make friends with the rockets, the first of their kind. Space fighters, carriers, battleships, escorts, satellites, and more were developed during this period.

Over time with the new updates to the game, there where many things my fleet where missing. Instead of remixing them to my new liking, I decided to wipe everything and start over. Massive improvements where made in control, speed, and firepower.

The latest chapter in our book consists of more unconventional vehicles known to KSP, such as boats and tanks. Even without wheels at the time, I managed to get sliding rocket-powered tanks on the prowl, as well as landing a boat-shaped space battlecruiser in the water that can land and launch from the sea.

Interceptors

42icougar.png

A simple, swift, and agile design makes the Cougar a deadly hit-and-run interceptor for it\'s larger counterparts. Even though it does not carry as many missiles and cannot support bombs, it is much faster for it\'s single engine design. Very effective. Holds 6 missiles.

Fighters

42iwildcat.png

The bigger sister of the Cougar. The Wildcat packs more of a punch, but is just as agile as the interceptor variant. Holds 8 missiles, and can hold two large dumb bombs, but without switching out the missiles performance won\'t be at the maximum.

42ipanther.png

Stronger, faster, and bigger than the Wildcat, but with less maneuverability. Instead of 8 missiles, it holds an additional 2 with a total of ten missiles and two bay-attached bombs. It could be called a heavy fighter and/or an all-around craft.

Bombers

VTOLs

This was a fun one! I went through multiple designs starting with a replica of PS2's 'Mosquito' aircraft, but then tweaked it to my own liking.

The Mosquito Mk1 is below, and is the most accurate of the three versions.

screenshot37os.png

Even though it could fly like any ordinary VTOL, it had some issues. The first one, and the biggest, is that it cannot hover at an angle like I was hoping to fire weaponry at targets. Something had to be done since every other VTOL here had the same issues. Weaponry was also limited, because there was no room for an missiles to be held under the wings due to their low reach.

The Mosquito Mk2 fixes these issues.

screenshot38y.png

As shown, the wings are lifted to make room for missiles and also make the craft more stable.

For the engines, I made a dual-VTOL mechanical stabilizer system on the bottom, which propels the craft at a different value but with a rigid angle heading slightly forward to the front of the craft.

screenshot39h.png

The combination of these small engines and the rotatable larger ones make the craft extremely stable in all conditions. It's by far the easiest VTOL I have flown. If piloted correctly, it won't stall until a degree of about 70 degrees while stationary in the air.

screenshot41j.png

screenshot43h.png

The final part of the puzzle is... you guessed it! Weapons! Need weapons, right?

The Mosquito Mk2AR holds 8 missiles at a recommended amount (for balancing reasons) but if you didn't care about how well it could hover then 16+ can be fitted if needed.

Will you be taking requests at all?

Don\'t want to 'jump the gun' but i has a request :P I believe it should be fairly challenging.

I\'m looking for a Rocket that can place a satellite into orbit, then return the rocket to Kerbin (doesn\'t matter if it survives), leaving no Debris behind in orbit. using Damnedaerospace, Damnedrobotics, C7 forward swept wing, C7 MK2bicoupler & Probodobodyne Construction Kit - v0.5

My main problem is i have no idea how to have the satellite in orbit without being called 'debris' while still being able to deorbit to rocket that launched it in the first place

:o where do i get .craft files? :o

I have them, but I\'m not going to release them to get people to actually make requests. The idea is to eventually replace every class.

Rockets aren\'t really my forte, but I guess I could try. I\'m much better at planes/spaceplanes etc. Keep in mind that those kind of orders will be first of priority.

And as said, will I be getting requests at all? ::)

The history page is conveniently set up there what I was capable of several months ago.

well i worked out how to get a sat in orbit with no debris left anywhere, mechjeb parts acts as a command unit so having one on each stage lets me deorbit parts or just end mission with them.

If your a master of spaceplanes (I totally suck at it!), Could you make a space plane that can reach kerbin orbit 100x100,that is built with only one stage, apart from 2 droppable fuel tanks, to act as a orbit-capable bomber? plane would be stage 2,1 bomb release would be stage 0. (stage 1,2 for different engine types IF the plane is built like that)

Stock? And how would you drop bombs from orbit whilst in an orbit? ::)
