What is the red light by the VSI for?

Anybody know this? I'm a real pilot and it's driving me mad!

Red for danger.  If your descent exceeds 12m/s (I think, Hard to read that fine on the VSI) it lights up.

Just the external view thingy. At the top center of the screen where it shows your altitude.

The triangle indicates whether you can safely return to the space center (blue) or recover the vessel (green)
