Thus thought I'd give a shout out to Rseferino Orbiter Filmmaker and his awesome Orbiter movies! I haven't a clue about just how he can work with that program to get such high quality cinematics out of it, I can barely get the darn thing running!

The RSS (Rotating Service Structure) isn't for mounting the shuttle onto it's boosters, that's done in the VAB. It's used to mount the payload into the payload bay and (afaik) for technicians to conduct hands-on checks prior to launch.

(Shakes head) Of all the pretty amazing things about the Shuttle, that RSS is one that fills me with wonder - just look at the size of the bloody hinges on that thing! You talk about building big.

His best videos (in my opinion):

1. Apollo 20

2. Ares Mission to Mars

3. Manned Venus Flyby (poor video quality but the music is excellent)

4. Skylab

5. Orion (remastered)
