Navball docking alignment indicator (Community Edition)

To begin with, it is just fair to say that @mic_e is the original Author of this mod. His thread can be found here. As stated in this thread as I personally like this mod alot and he wasn't online for 3 Months I decided to pick it up and continue it's development in his absence. License and all will be kept exactly the same, the only difference will be the name (added Community Edition for clarity) and the sourcecode obviously.

Now a little bit about this mod, what it does and what you use it for.

Ever had the issue that when you were planning a rendevouz in space and wanted to dock to your target however it was a pain in the a** due to rotation of camera, lightning or some other reason? Well then this mod might be just the mod you are looking for. This will add a new Marker to the Navball to show if you are aligned with the targeted Dockingport. (You can also tell the targets rotation by it if you need it) and this will save you lot of fiddeling and switching back and forth to double and triple check. It really is just a minimalistic mod and yet so usefull

Features

  • Add a new marker to the navball to indicate Dockingport alignment
  • You can change the color of the marker via a config (r, g, b values)

Planned Features:

  • Scaling of the marker
  • custom Markertexture

Useful mod.  You really should have some pics if you want clicks though.  Not everyone is familiar with this mod.

Thanks for the suggestion. As I am not really good with that stuff I hope the pictures I provided give an Idea on what it does. If you have suggestions on how I could improve this, let me know :)

Yes it does

That work other than perhaps your primary pic being crop to just being the nav ball with red indicator marker.

Will look at how I could do that later, thanks

Actually sorry. Thought you meant EVA. IVA it doesn't work but I will work to implement it as it is even more useful in IVA

Thanks Leeman, I'm glad this mod is maintained! It really should be stock by now :P

Haven't tested the main capacity yet, but I've noticed a spam in ksp.log:

Quote

[EXC 15:58:48.524] NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Hmm even with those mods I am not able to reproduce the error. What exactly are you doing when this message pops up? Can you provide me with a safe file that has the exact condition met thats causing that NullPointException?

I might have been using "Hotfix2" from github page. Just now I used the 1.0.1 the spam went away, and the docking reticle also actually appeared. So whatever was the error it was in the difference, I guess! :P

Thanks for maintenance again!

Hi @Leeman,

Thanks for being so community-minded!  However, the original mod is licensed thus:

On 10/20/2013 at 3:23 PM, mic_e said:

License

The plugin is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3, or, at your choice, any higher version.

That license requires that you have to keep the same license when you redistribute.  From looking at your forum thread post (and at your SpaceDock page), there are a few additional steps you need to do to be in compliance.

Please do the following:

  1. Read and familiarize yourself with the terms of the GPL-3.0 license.
  2. Add a notice to your forum thread that says what the license is.  (You have it on the SpaceDock page, but it needs to be in the forum thread, too.)
  3. Add a notice to your forum thread with a link to the source code.  (You have it on the SpaceDock page, but it needs to be in the forum thread, too.)
  4. The license needs to be distributed with the downloadable mod itself.  You can solve this easily by including a license notice as a text file that comes with the DLL in its zip file.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for the Headsup. Will solve the points you mentioned within the next 24h

Edit: Thanks again. Made sure to comply to the mentioned posts. It might need a while before it gets affective on CKAN thou

Hi guys,

thanks for keeping this mod going!

TBH I'm still slightly annoyed that this functionality hasn't become stock yet :/

I haven't been very active in KSP, KSP modding or the KSP forums as of late, so I hadn't even noticed that a new version of KSP had been released. I half expected the mod to keep working in newer versions as it always did, but today when I popped up ckan I noticed your "community continuation" :)

I think the mod is better off in the hands of somebody who plays and thus tests more frequently, so have fun! I'll link you in my original thread.

Since you changed my version number scheme, the new name (Community Edition suffix) is probably a good idea; you may use the original name if you want, though.

Hey there,

no problem at all^^

Yea I changed both version number scheme and name of it. to make it clear, that it's not the same one you provide so people don't come to you and say xyz is not working and vice versa
