Survey Contract placement

Hi.

Is there a way to restrict the distance from the KSC that survey contract waypoints appear?

I am playing an x10 Kerbol system, and survey contracts appearing on the other side of the planet require several hour long real time flying to reach them, even with Mach 4 airplanes.

If survey contracts could have a distance restriction rather than appearing anywhere on the planet, I'd be very happy.

Maybe this could be accomplished through Contract Configurator? If so, how?

Find the file contracts.cfg in the Squad folder. Survey contracts have various configurable fields, including distances. However, their precise functions are arcane knowledge at best, and you'll have to experiment.

Also, make sure that nothing is already modifying these values. There used to be a bug in Kopernicus about half a year ago where the game would crash upon attempting to generate a survey contract on a resized Kerbin because for some unfathomable reason it couldn't find any eligible spots within its default range. The workaround for that was to drastically increase the range allowance, resulting in even the easiest survey contracts generating absurdly far away. This bug has long been fixed, but perhaps whatever 10x Kerbin System mod you use includes such a bugfix config and simply never removed it?

I did experiment, and I find that contract waypoints are placed correctly when using the Sigma Dimensions mod.

However, the distance values in the .cfg file only determine the range of multiple observation points from their center. For example, an easy contract would have 3 points within 500m of each other, while a hard contract would have six points in a 15km radius.

Nothing in that .cfg file determines waypoint placement, which is why asked if it were possible to place them using Contract Configurator.
