'Create-a-Corridor' for surface bases...possible?

Having read a number of discussions on the best way to dock surface bases, on thing is clear, it's hard! 

Inspired by the 'flex-o-tube' in @RoverDude Kolonization, but looking for a way that is completely EVA-less: What would go into having landed vessels A and B, say Xm away and at a sane angle to each other, auto-create a corridor between the two (this would obviously dock the vessels as well as creating a visual link between them)? Perhaps costing funds and requiring engineers on board too?
