@Pamelloes I've brought this up before, but the way things are structured now it's not easy, and would require knowing in advance whether the probe would have signal when it got there, and predictive signal routing is too computationally expensive. Perhaps the new devs would be willing to look into this tho. So yea, if you have a probe that's 3 light minutes away, it can't receive any new instructions until at least 3 mins after it makes contact with KSC - you can't beam a signal out towards where you may know it would be to get the message just after it came into range/visibility.

i know what you're thinking: just have the code store a transmission, wait the allotted sig delay, then check whether the satellite has a connection in order to receive it. I thought that too. But realize that RT can't calculate sig delay based solely on knowing the probe's distance from the transmission source, it has to know what route through the comm network the signal will take to get to the destination, so it either already needs a connection to calculate the delay, or know in advance what the signal route would be, which would be too much work to not drag down game performance

Well, it *would* know in advance what the signal route would be in most cases, because the route would be the set of links which exist when the command is sent, not when it was received.  What RT would need to know at time of reception is the location at time of sending of the point source of the final link in the chain before the probe, and calculate from that. I'd note that only really works when all the links in the chain are, say, within the Kerbin SOI and communicating out to a probe long-distance.  It would not work at all If you were routing a signal from Kerbin to an LKO satellite, to Jool, to a probe out past Eeloo's orbit, since you'd have to calculate separate point sources along the route.

To be accurate, RT would need to have a routing protocol like TCP, with source and destination headers, and only calculate each link in the chain individually.  That would be accurate in terms of how RL communications work, but probably a computational nightmare and very difficult for the end user in some instances to determine *why* their transmission failed to get to the probe.  RT has always been a tradeoff between reality and some level of computational convenience, but it's far more realistic than no communications lag.

I am getting a very strange problem where occasionally my transmitted science won't actually add a report and I won't receive any science, even though the actual transfer "Complete!"s (although I do not get the message stating "Report on x received. N science added".)

I am using RemoteTech as part of KSPI and using PartCommander to run the context menus and actually execute the experiments. I remember, long ago, there used to be a problem with using RemoteTech with Science Alert; I figured perhaps there's a similar issue with PartCommander, where RT actually checks if you truly did click the button to run the experiment yourself, or something? I'm also using [x] Science! to keep track of my experiments. I know it *looks* as though the problem isn't that I'm not receiving the data, just that [x] Science! isn't *displaying* the data, but I double-checked that by going back to the research building and manually looking to see if the report was there.

I haven't figured out why it only happens *sometimes* and not others, but the only reason I think it might have something to do with RemoteTech is that every once in a while I get a series of messages from RT claiming that had to reset an experiment to incomplete. Not sure, but I figured it'd be worth posting logs in here and seeing what you guys thought.

Here is an example of a *successful* science transmission:

As you can see, there is never any "Report on x received, N science added" message.

Needless to say this bug is really ruining my game experience! At first I thought it had something to do with certain science parts and not others, except then I finally got the gravity scanner to work after about 30 tries... Then the magnetosphere scanner worked on the fifth try, then I spent about ten minutes straight trying to transmit home a crew report and finally quit in frustration.

Anyone have any ideas, or perhaps proof that this isn't remotetech? I only came here first since RemoteTech handles the actual transmission itself, and the "report received" message gets generated by it, which makes it the most likely suspect I think

I get this issue aswell. No science is transmitted, even tho it says so. I do run [x]science aswell, however no science alert(that has not been updated, right?). Issue was experienced when trying to send altimetry data from scansat and when trying to send an EVA report.

I've been playing 1.0.5 with RemoteTech for quite a while with no problems, and yesterday I tried installing Near Future (Propulsion, Electrical, Solar, and Construction only; not Spacecraft). I loaded my career save; everything seemed fine... but the Flight Computer from RemoteTech (for issuing maneuver commands in advance) seems to have completely vanished--the button that activates it is not visible, and clicking on the place where it should be does nothing--and the display in the upper left that is supposed to show the signal delay just says "N/A."

Any idea why Near Future (or B9PartSwitch or CommunityResourcePack or DecayingRTGs, the other pieces bundled with it) might be causing this conflict with RemoteTech? It doesn't seem like they should be interfering with each other at all, but there it is.

Never mind; I tried installing an older 1.0.5-compatible version of Near Future and now everything seems to be working fine.

Hello, first of all RT is really a great mod. Everybody love satellites and suddenly lost connections on descent of Mun probes in last 100 meters :) . O'k I do.

I have a question though - I have a space station with probe core and antenna, everything fine, connection is ok. I fly my spaceship to this station and bump it accidentally - and station start spinning. Looks like SAS on station works only if I switch to it. I may be wrong, but it's not stock behavior?

Seems to happen when there is more than 1 active antenna on the ship. Can be fixed by shutting down all but 1 antenna ( trial and error as to which one to leave active - it can differ by experiment, no idea why). Better yet, avoid by shutting down before send any science.

Bit of a pain if the probe cores are involved though.

May someone please explain to me how to make a custom dish? I used to do it in the older versions but since then things have changed and I am unable to figure it out. I need to make an independent dish with a range of around 4000 Terameters.

Have you already read the page on the Wiki?

I would highly recommend a read through the wiki, it's very well done.

However, I have a question I couldn't really find an answer to: How were the range/dishangles/energycosts determined? I know sometimes they're based off of real world analogues, but I was thinking more along the lines of rescaling existing dishes to fit unoccupied niches in the spectrum for personal use. Just wondering if there is a handy dandy formula or something obvious I overlooked that incorporates the relevant values.

Cheers.

P.S. Really enjoying 1.7.0 - you guys put in a lot of work for this version and it shows.:)

So I had a random thought this evening. What would it take for RemoteTech to implement Delay Tolerant Networking?

It's a real world technique where data can be passed on to a relay without the relay having a connection with the target, and essentially it makes deep space missions a lot easier (or when a lot of relays are passing on the data).

It can probably be unlocked at R&D very late in the tech tree, so it wouldn't make the early-game too easy. Also maybe it can be implemented that only some more advanced probe cores have such functions, or add a "data storage" HDD part for relay to store data.

Looking for a little bit of help please.

I am creating a mod that is 5x larger than KSP and am re-working all of the antennas. I do not need help on figuring out the numbers for distances or editing the config files, but I DO need help on cone angles.

I have done the trigonometry involved with it and I understand how to calculate all of it, but I am curious what the players of Remote Tech think...

Should I change the sizes of the cones to cover the entire SOI of the planet the antenna is designed to reach to? Or should I have it cover a smaller area that would cover all of the planets moons? This is an issue because of the huge distances out at 5x scale.

Thanks for your help!

Is your craft controllable?  I'm not able to launch anything or make changes unless I remove the RemoteTech dll from my install under 1.1.3.  I can throttle up, but not stage, or launch.

I had a strange behavior of the Flight Computer (KSP v1.1.2). My goal was to send a satellite to follow Mun via its orbit of 11400km x 11400km and on distance of 3500 km. So from LKO I've set a node to raise Apo to 11400km and to be 3500km behind Mun on arrival. That should be outside of the Mun SOI. While executing the node the rising orbit has got in situation when Apo has crossed the Mun's SOI, so an encounter appeared for a few seconds. If everything worked well then further burn execution would increase the vessel's velocity, making it pass by Mun's SOI earlier, thus avoiding the encounter. In fact as the burn continued, a few seconds later the encounter was indeed avoided but it seemed like Flight Computer has lost the stop point: it continued the burn until out of fuel, sending my satellite into the deep space.

Sorry for no pics but I hope it's clear what happened.

I made the ven stock parte revamp antennas usable with RT. I had just patched them so now they have range. I had patched all of them but one, beacause i cant made its animation working.i'm not a modder and i did this for fun. There are some problem with the license?

(edit: after reading some other threads on TimeWarp.SetRate related issues, recompiling alone might have worked as well.)

An actual fix.

In FlightComputer.cs line 284:

I changed

TimeWarp.SetRate(TimeWarp.CurrentRateIndex - 1, true);

to

TimeWarp.SetRate(TimeWarp.CurrentRateIndex - 1, true, true);

and recompiled. I've tested it and I can take off again, so it seems to have done the trick.
