"pulse" throttle hotkey

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This is a small feature I would find very useful, very often, just wondering if anybody else would too?

We have theMax and Min throttle buttons, which instantly sets 100%/0% throttle, very useful.

I would like a hotkey to be available to "pulse" the throttle.

The simplest operation would be simply a "pulse" version of max. throttle. Press the key and you have 100% thrust whilst you hold down the key.

More useful would be to be able to set this key to any percentage thrust: 1%, 50%, whatever.

I can already "simulate" this functionality by manually adjusting the  max throttle slider in the engine context menu and then using the Max/Min throttle keys. But I do this fairly often (on most manouvre nodes) so having a pulse button would shorten/simplify that sequence significantly.

Perhaps it is more appropriate for a mod rather than stock functionality? Or perhaps nobody else would find a use for this? I dunno, thats why I'm posting :)

Thanks!

Pete

While this does look interesting, I'm not seeing the usefulness of it. You say you use it for maneuver nodes, but I don't see how you would need a split second pulse of thrust to do any maneuver, and if there are, you could just use RCS or just use minimal throttle. Just my opinion though.

For fine, accurate adjustment. I do sometimes use RCS for this, but it is not always appropriate, not all craft are equipped for example.

But why would RCS make it easier? Because it has the "pulse" function :D

You can use tiny throttle adjustments too, its trickier to achieve very fine accuracy this way though, to make it even easier, you can adjust the max thrust setting in the engine menu. But thats alot of keypresses and I have a lot of keyboard keys spare.

Hold down throttle-down-button(Control). Keep it held down,
now tap throttle-up-button(Shift).

Your throttle will jump to 5% and back down to 0% in half a second, smoothly. After adjusting your maxThrust setting, this becomes even more accurate. I know you shouldn't use main engines for fine manuevres, but sometimes there just isn't RCS.

Nice tip, I'll try that, thanks.

No fine adjustment should be made with bursts like that, it's too imprecise.  It's better to set the thrust limiter down and make the burn longer.

I dunno, I get pretty good precision, just there's a lot of clicking and fussing.

Thanks for the input guys :)
