I made my own curve editor:  http://www.braeunig.us/KSP/AtmoTutorial/FloatCurve.xlsx.  The numbers in columns E to H is the same data that makes up the curve in the cfg file.  You just manipulate the data until you get the curve you want.  As you add or remove rows of data, you'll likely have to redefine the data range of the curve.

I've noticed many things that have made their way into configs that are unnecessary or obsolete.  These things get copied from one config to another because few people know what they do, so nobody removes them.  I'm surely guilty of it as well because I certainly don't know what everything does.  But when I do discover that something is unnecessary, I like to let people know.  For instance, solarPowerCurve is no longer used by KSP, so it's utterly useless to have it in a config.  I also don't know what something like temperatureLapseRate is doing in there.  A temperature lapse rate is the rate at which air temperature decreases with increasing altitude (presumably in units of Kelvins per meter).  But air temperature in KSP is controlled completely by the temperature curves, so temperatureLapseRate doesn't do anything (it's probably a relic from an earlier version of the game).

A couple other parameters that I'm uncertain about are albedo and emissivity.  I know what these do in real life, but I haven't figured what, if anything, they do in KSP.  Perhaps they're used in temperature calculations, such as computing the radiative heat flux coming off a planet.  Since I don't know, I continue to assign values to them.  But I do know they don't do anything if placed under the Atmosphere node.  Albedo and emissivity need to go under the Properties node, yet I've seen many a config that has albedo under Atmosphere.

This may be an unusual request, but…

I would like to change the system during runtime. That is, I want to change both the properties of a particular planet (atmosphere thermal characteristics, texture, and so on) and the collection of planets (replace the entire system with a single body).

I know both of these kinds of changes will result in explosions from existing ships, and my plugin will account for that. But I need to know if this is possible.

It is possible, but you need to write a plugin to do it. Kopernicus does not have that function

Can I trigger a "reload" of Kopernicus via a plugin? Or would I need to hack/recreate Kopernicus to make that possible?

I would like to replace Kerbin, say, with a molten orb after my plugin says so.

Separstely, I would like to load a persistence (via my plugin) with a system consisting of one body. Then I would like to load another persistence with the original system (again, via my plugin).

this is not at all simple and I'd suggest you to settle for something simpler unless you are ready to sink hours and hours in coding this mod.

 

if you want to give it a shot, you need first to add to kerbin all PQS mods required to get the "molten orb" using kopernicus. but make sure that all those mods have "enabled = false"

then, when it's time to switch, your plugin needs to go through all pqsmods on kerbin, disable the ones you don't want, and enable the ones from the "molten orb", then you trigger a spere reload (can't remember the name, but it's one of the options of the pqscontroller)

finally you need to change the scaled space to match the new pqs

 

I've already done this on a smaller scale so I know it works, but it's a pain to do so you will need to be really into it to get everything to work

 

and waste A LOT of time

I'm guessing you are using a heavily modded install

you'll need to narrow down the number of mods/configs to the minimum required to cause the issue otherwise we can't help you

once you found the minimum amount possible of stuff that causes the issue click on the nyan cat in my sig and provide us the files described there

Only mods are Kopernicus, MFI and the basis of my planet mod. I'll try separating Olu'um away and just loading the body in individually (will edit this post with results)

 

[REMOVED] Edit: Found the issue. It was Instantiator, the plugin I use for the accretion disk.

you can't change the system setup, but you can have a body hidden and one showing, and use your plugin to hide the one that's showing and show the one that's hidden

My game setup is borked again - dunno why.

I still use the RLS 4 of Kopernicus, can't get into SPC from Main Menu, black screen with spinning planets bar for ages, log is spammed with

It's probably a mod using BUILTIN/ textures more than once

This is a know issue

 

EDIT: 

there's also the chance it might be an issue with the planet pack itself, in which case it should be up to the devs of that mod to fix this issue

Hi, I've noticed that planet rings stay well-lit all the time, even on the night side of the planet. Is there any way to fix this?

I've had a case of planets spontaneously breaking. Like I give them a quick edit - improve atmosphere gradient colors or change PQSMods - and next thing you know they don't load at all. The two in question are Eotia (HD 219134 b) and Mikrogi (HD 219134 g II). You know the drill: configs, output logs.

Tagging @The White Guardian and @Gameslinx and @Thomas P. for help. Three things to note:

  1. I was adding clouds and dust storms to Eotia with EVE when it broke, and I had also just edited its atmospheric gradient colors.
  2. Mikrogi broke after I cut+pasted every PQSMod except for Vertex Height and Color Map into a separate text document. This had worked for every other planet/moon I did it with...but not this one.
  3. Yes, I really named a land class "Meow". Deal with it :P.

Hey guys, I wanted to use Astronomers Visual Pack and Kopernicus is one of the Dependencies (along with EVE, Scatterer and TextureReplacer).

Unfortunately, Kopernicus incurs a rather heavy Performance penalty.

I have a bunch of mods installed, and before adding Kopernicus, I have 55 FPS. After adding Kopernicus this drops to 35 FPS. For part-heavy scenes, this espacially hurts because the FPS goes down from bearable 15 FPS to unbearable 6 FPS.
