How much resource do non-part mods take? In general.

Hi All,

I realise an accurate answer is impossible due to the vast variety of mods and other factors, but here it is:

How much of an impact on RAM, CPU or other limiting resources does the average non-part/texture plugin take? If Im on 90-95% RAM usage, and have already made my peace with the fact that more parts will likely cause much more frequent crashes, is it worth contemplating mods like "CraftHistory", "Ship Manifest", "Persistant Rotation" etc.? Or should i just forget it until I can increase my RAM?

I don't need to know the properties of those exact mods, just wondering in general, because there are one or two that have caught my eye, but I have just reached a point of stability with my build and dont want to rock the boat too much :)

Thanks!

Pete

If you have the hard drive space, just make an exact copy of your KSP install folder, and place it away from the original... Then just add to and run KSP from the copy, till either you get everything you want installed, and it runs, OR until it crashes... :)
Just try to leave SOME headroom in RAM usage for extended play-time, and numerous scene changes...

@Stone Blue "headroom" he says, good one! :)

Thanks though, I do do that sometimes. But with 6-7minute load times it gets a little wearing :(

Also, I risk finding that I love the mod, but have mad crashes, which would hurt my soul.

I may try a few things this weekend.

Ha!... Six to Seven minutes, he says.... Try 20 (TWENTY) minutes...

Yeah, I feel ya tho... Would have been nice if Dynamic Texture Loader, or something had proven out for 1.1.x

There is a mod From Spacedock called Memory Monitoring, You can use it to monitor how much Memory KSP use while playing. Because i dont know how much Memory of a NON-PART mod are using. Its maybe low because it doesnt have any textures to load into ram be sure to remove other mods first. Just Use Squad Folder and Memory monitoring first then RUN KSP. Record the ram usage the exit. Then place the mods you want to gamedata again then run KSP to see how much memory it use. Try to use ATM if you experience Frequent Crashes.
