Combulating Discombulator

Alright, so I'm sure you've all seen this loading hint yourselves: "Combulating Discombulator".

While most of the loading hints are a reference to a pun somewhere, this one went way over my head: Yes, it's supposed to be nonsensical, I'm sure, but is it at least a reference to something?

My usual JFGI-approach wasn't very helpful. Googling "Combulation" had only one entry, and that was on Urban Dictionary

Trying discombulator yelded a few more results, some more interesting than others:

As much as I love the above picture, I doubt whoever wrote the loading hint had that in mind.

 

Anyone able to enlighten me?

 

Oh, and for those of you thinking "This guy has a serious lack of humour", you're wrong. I just tend to over-analyze things.

I always had the faint feeling that someone just misspelled Discombobulator. I heard that word in multiple sci-fi environments before... though I can't name one. I kinda' imagined it as a zap-gun that discombobulates people to tiny molecules.

My best bet for the word's origin would be very old James Bond movies. Villains in those loved such toys.

Obviously a discombobulator is that which confuses someone.  (I'd say it's working, huh?)

Therefore, a combobulator would do the opposite.  It is that which combobulates, fuse, concerts, set, or unfrustrates.

 

For a dicombobulator to properly dicombobulate, it must be in proper working order.  If it was not working, one could say it was upset or frustrated, etc.  So to properly prepare the dicombobulator for discombobulation, one must first combobulate the discombobulator.

It was probably built for Steampunk Cosplay.

The original phrase is just some silly Kerbal humor about redundancy. Like a few of the worthless parts that you gain access to.

As for what that gun in the photo is, steam punk junk. I'd rather have this...

it may not look THAT big, but, the MOAB is by far and away the largest NON NUCLEAR weapon in the US arsenal.

if anything discombobulates, its this bugger.

Yes.... both of those were never in the US arsenal... but the American pilots who saw them fell in love with them and wanted some to drop on Berlin... not sure if they ever got the chance, they were mostly used to destroy U Boat pens... and given that these are the grand daddies of your MOAB.... please show respect and accept they are the masters.

Ironically this reminds me of The Sims, specifically, The Sims: Makin Magic Expansion Pack's loading screens which are much like KSPs, with it changing captions periodically. One even sounds similar, "Reticulating Stimulated Splines" or something along those lines...

Now I want to play Sims 1. Anyone want to join me?
