How to land on Kerbin with Landing-Struts

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

i try to land on Kerbin with Landingstruts on my Vessel. But unfortunately there explode on every landing attempt. I use also Heat Shield and four Radiators, if its nessecery i post a screenshot of my Vessel.  Is it impossible to land on Kerbin with landing Struts?

Bye

They work just fine, I use 'em all the time.  If I had to guess, it would be maybe you have too much ship weight sitting on not enough struts-- either use more/bigger struts, or a smaller ship.  Or maybe you're hitting the ground too fast.  But that's just a guess.

Could you please post a screenshot of your ship?  Also, how fast are you going when you touch down?

Hint:  It's pretty much always necessary, for most questions.  It's really hard for people to answer "why does my ship do X?" questions without seeing the ship.  :wink:

To get landing legs that can take a significant amount of weight, you need very high tech landing legs. If you are willing to be creative about it, and use lower tech -- try looking at Wing Connector Type E's perhaps. Just pretend they look like landing legs that you never have to extend.

In addition to what the others said about stronger landing struts, you should also take it in slowly. How fast are you going when you hit the ground? And a screenshot would probably help.

Hello,

Thank you for your answers :).

Sorry for my bad english, it should be better, but it isnt :(

Maybe i discribe the situation wrong, the Landing Struts explode due the flight true the thicker atmosphere. I made a few Screenshots from a test Vessel.

Maybe my entry angel ist too flat ?

Again, if you use wing parts instead of landing legs, they will not burn in the atmosphere. With suborbital speeds, I am very surprised that your landing legs are exploding. Maybe try tumbling your craft to get to slow down better.

@bewing,

oh sorry i overread it in your first post.

May i found a solution, when i extend the Landing Struts befor i hit the atmosphere the dont explode. But its not realy understandable for me. When the Struts are extended the have much more surface as the not extended.

Bye Kai
