Carl Sagan, of course.

The man was a Scientist AND a poet.

Also, admittedly a mathematician rather than anything else, Claude Shannon was a badass. Singlehandedly inventing the branch of mathematics which allowed for all of the electronic communications we have today. Without him, there would be no space program.

Nikola Tesla. Pure badass. He created phenomenon that we can\'t even do today.

Except everyone was an ass to him and he died purely insane. You guys should read up on him.

Edison. 'Inventor of the light bulb' my ass. =P

If I were to pick a scientist,

I am stuck between Sagan and Tyson. Maybe Brian Cox?

Surprised to see no Feynman listed. Sagan and Tyson are amazing popularizers of science, but people like Feynman, Einstein, Newton and Euclid are the amazing advancers of science (standing, of course, on the shoulders of giants, as Newton himself said).

For sheer color and variety of accomplishments, Benjamin Franklin. First postmaster, early proponent of public libraries, ambassador to France, inventor of bifocals, inventor of lightning rods, abolitionist (in his later life), governor of Pennsylvania, almanac publisher, and on and on. And one that most people don\'t know about: in his time, he was world-famous as one of the foremost experts on electricity.
