To be more helpful: are you using reflection, or are you hard-linking to the MechJeb DLL?  This method takes advantage of reflection to set up a delegate that checks if SmartASS is off.  If you hard-link, you will do just about the same thing, only you won't need reflection to get to the methods and field you need.
