Life in the Middle East

First, please, I want to say something: If you believe that all Arabs are terrorists then, please, leave.

Greetings,

My name is Waseem (Handsome in Arabic), I was born in Jordan, and, my mother's Ukranian, I can speak 3 languages (In order, from primary to last): English, Arabic, Russian.

Anyways, I'm not here to tell you my personality, I'm going to be explaining what living in the middle east is like.

First is the tradition, it's just, exactly like a tribe, Arabs are low class people, their music is basically like a tribe..

Here's an example (Warning: Video is extremely weird and has shouting, seriously, this is the weirdest stuff I have ever seen):

Spoiler

You can already notice, they are armed with weapons, I'll talk about that later.

Here is the music (Tell me if you find this inappropriate):

Good Lord...

Arabs are weird. I just, what?

Now, the VERY big difference, that stuff you saw, it's only for low class Arabs (Basically richness and poorness).

If you have a good amount of money, you can get a very good living, no, you won't find people armed with guns, it's actually very rare (At least for Jordan), BUT, never ever trust places for tourists, they always have those low class Arabs that scam money from tourists, yes, in Arabic countries, they are really not friendly to tourists. Be prepared for extreme scams (Hotels are fine, they don't scam, only those touristic places).

High class: You will have a very great time, you will not be stuck to those weird songs or anything like that, if you find someone low class, then, try to stay away from their "join us" attempts, they will try to influence you greatly, don't let them drag you with them (that does NOT mean you shall ignore them).

Now what? Ugh, you won't experience it, but, normally, it happens, eh, A LOT..

What is it? No, not murder or some kind of crap. It's their marriage celebrities . It doesn't sound bad, but it's, REALLY BAD. First, women go to a side, and men go to another side, they put on this weird music, and guess what? MAXIMUM VOLUME, you will feel your intestines shaking inside your body of how loud the music is.

Now, comes the guns and safety, the VERY low class usually has guns equipped. But don't worry, murder is rare in Arabic countries (I find it weird, since a lot of people carry guns, but they rareley use them, even when threatened). As of their religion, it is STRICTLY PROHIBITED to hurt another muslim, so, you're quite safe.

Now, is their knowledge. As you may have guessed, Arabs are quite dumb, and, if you are staying in a hotel, good luck trying to communicate with anyone, even the receptionist. Arabs have VERY little English education.

Education now. Arabs have one of the worst education in the world, especially if you go to free schools (seriously, you are gonna want to leave right when you put your foot on the basement of the school, every single student will be jumping on desks, and make such a massive mess.

Prices are extremely high, can be 3 times the prices in the US.

Hygene is horrible, walking on the road... You see a lot of chips bags all over the road, and plastic bags flying instead of birds.

Talking about wildlife now, HORRIBLE, first thing, you can easily see a couple of dirty kids abusing an animal, especially street cats, they throw rocks, sticks and pebbles at those harmless cats, it's seriously sad to watch. Trying to stop them? They're going to do the same thing with you. Birds are rare to find.

Plants, seriously, good luck finding anything other than desert plants. Normal green plants are rare to find.

Rainfall? Good lord, don't think of that, rainfall is EXTREMLY RARE, even in winter. But, Jordan offers one of the best rainfall in the middle east, and sometimes snow.

Terrorism, it's horrible, I really hate when:

Me: I'm an Arab

Random Person: Terrorist!

It feels so horrible, I hate those type of people, because since 9/11, I havent seen any MAJOR terrorism.

Religion, it's ruined, in the past years, our religion was seriously strong, but is falling apart now, good thing is: People still fear god and obey his rules. Bad thing is: They have mixed horrible things with god.

Hope I helped,

Waseem.

Hi, Waseem,

Actually, I know quite a bit about life in the Middle East, I have a couple of friends who spent almost twenty years as missionaries in Damascus, Syria. They aren't there now, they were booted by the government right before the civil war started. One of them is living stateside now, the other has moved back to Lebanon and is working with an NGO in the refugee camps.

I'm also an ex-submariner. What's your rating? I was a nuclear machinist's mate, only one tour, did my six and got out.

Thanks for your words Wasseem,

you grew up in a country that's been exposed to the proxy-wars of the superpowers for almost 3 generations now. I bet the situation would be much better if the recent political past and coexistence had been more peacefull. I mean, you are a perfect example of peaceful coexistence of different people :-)

I've only to the arabian peninsula. There the local arabs are the lords, pakistanis and indians do the work. The countries are rich from the oil. For outlanders it's safe as long as they stick to the rules and the social order. There was a case of an arab who stepped totally drunk on a road and was killed in an accident, the driver of the car was pakistani. If the police had not arrested him right away he would have been murdered by the crowd.

I've also been to central and east Africa (Jambo !). In some places, away from the cities, the enmity towards foreigners is much more seizable. The people in the lands are very poor and the regimes terribly corrupt. In the wrong places and showing the wrong behaviour foreigners can get robbed for the clothes they wear. A white man walking alone is soon surrounded by kids "pipi !" (sweets) and adults "support me !". If he refuses they can get angry "what's your problem mister !". I saw a small school, financed directly (not through official channels because of corruption) by a foreign lady, to offer some education to the children. One has the feeling some areas mainly rely on foreign support, people there aren't used to self-reliance ... (Edit: i haven't been to the cities).

I hope conditions will get better in the middle east, climatically it could be a flowering area. In my eyes education is the key to a better life, but that takes at least a generation.

I'm actually not a submariner, but have experienced a lot in submarines.

Yep, it's totally sad.

Same here, I really hope things get better, but it doesn't look like anything's getting better.

Well then, atleast I have broke off of the low-class type, I barley did, my movement to a medium-class area has helped me change.

The roots of civilization are in Africa. Mesopotamian area is just one of the nodes that caught up later in the process.

Pure semantics. rdem sees the root of civilization as the emergence of settledness, division of work, social stratification. If you define civilisation on that base he is right (e.g.: excavation of ancient Jericho on the banks of the river Jordan), todays Jordan is part of that area which covers the Levant, Jordan, Syria, eastern Turkey, parts of Iraq and northern Iran ("fertile crescent").

Africa is the cradle of humankind, of the genus und most of the (sub-)species of humans, be they civilized or not :-)

Furthermore Mesopotamia saw the early "civilizations" that built cities, had an administration, had some sort of "king" or chief and spent a lot of time in beating the neighbours up. Sloppy said. Like Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, ....

In turkey, Imgur is banned because of porn but other sites that have porn like tumblr, twitter is not. And liveleak of course.

A week ago I thought that imgur is a special hosting for KSP screenshots...

It is so frequently used in the forums, it's just the best way of posting screenshots.

Ok, can we stop talking about imgur and inappropriate things?

You must have never seen Brazil, it seems.

It's tribal as heck here. The great, great majority of our national songs [snip] (If I translated the things they say I'd get an infraction); people try to make justice with their own hands (there was a hoax on WhatsApp about a woman, she got lynched as a result; it later turns out that the hoax was false); when you actually try to solve things the lawful way it takes literally forever; corruption levels are off the chart, with our president getting impeached recently; things cost about three times what they cost in the US; every city you go to, there's at least one riced car each block; people were shooting each other due to the mayor elections; there's this "cars vs bikes" road culture, it's not uncommon to see people dying over road rage; ...

And so it goes on.

I have never been in Brazil, but I believe Arab countries are worse, what I wrote was nice of me, it gets so much worse.

Content to be added tomorrow.

Please mind the tone of the discussion in this thread. Porn is not a suitable subject for this forum, and disparaging an entire nationality, even if you are a member of it, is still a pretty harsh thing to do when some of your fellow forum members may come from that country.
