Fist plane !!

Recommended Posts

Hello

After several years ! of flying KSP in rockets, i've build my first plane.

He is very stable, takeoff very gently at 3/4 throttle.

I've made a 1 hour trip to the kerbal pyramids !!.

Thank to the communauty and the youtubers for the design technical help

The pyramid is *not* an easy place to land at, despite having some flat ground - the approach does not make things easy. It took several aborted approaches before I dropped this guy in, I remember:

In general I'd advise using the medium gear at least for landing in the rough, or medium + small tailwheel for a taildragger ( probably the safest ).

Good job for your first craft! ( although I'm slightly disappointed it wasn't a flying fist :P ).

Twin engines and a V-tail?  Interesting features on a first plane!

For emergency landings, you could attach a radial chute directly above the center of mass, keeping in mind how the CoM will move as fuel is burned.  Then after you've flown as far as the pyramids and realize the terrain is risky for a conventional landing, you have the option of popping the chute over a flattish spot to drift down safely.

Most newbies try to over-do it and build too big.

That's like what I did, except I kept overdoing it, and kept overdoing it, until I turned it into a tradition. :) It's funny, but designing large craft just comes naturally to me. I don't do sloppy overkill, I'd like to think that all my stuff is well designed, it certainly works very well. It just turns out that they are capable of doing so much more than their original purpose. For example, I designed a VTOL SSTO for hauling stuff to orbit, and it turned out to be capable of visiting several planets as well without refueling. It had like 13k of delta-v upon reaching orbit with the sloppiest trajectory I could think up. Now that's overkill.

My tanks turned out to be capable of taking out entire armadas.

My Leviathan can take out the universe.

...

Okay, fine! I admit that last one is just lag.

It's on my KerbalX page.

All you gotta do is launch it, then switch away from it, then switch back to it, KSP should freeze, then after a long time, it will give you a blank universe. I'd recommend doing this on a laptop, because it's almost guaranteed to work there, as it makes huge demands on the RAM, and laptops only have so much.

First and most importantly: nice, small and simple design, @benoit406. I like it. If this is your first, you have a whole new wealth of experiences and adventures ahead of you in KSP, and you're making a good start!

Heu... actually i crash near the pyramids !!!. to much hill on my way land.. But actually Jeb survive and make a little journey to the ancient alien ruins :-)

It's not an easy place to get to. My first visit to it in 1.2 is now marked by a cockpit -just the cockpit - permanently parked at the base of the large pyramid...

Well, we can't have that now, can we? So to protect @benoit406 from claims of false advertisement :D, and to squash your disappointment, I present: My Fist Plane.

i see that some people are disapointed of my plane design ;-) I'm a french kerbonaut so, for you i translate a quotation of a famous french plane designer "Serge Dassault"; " a good plane is a beautiful plane , a beautiful plane is a simple plane".

But i'm also a honest person, so i admit that all your creations are awesome :-)

Here an old test for a DynaSoar, but as i've not learn how to deal with plane all the plane crash on land. So i got to the kerbal flying & engineering school and made my first plane ;-)

I tried building one with Mk1 fuselages as fingers and Mk3 cargo as the palm, but it keeps going out of control.

Dammit. I 100% was not trying to be a grammar National German Socialist Party member but I literally opened the thread expecting to see a plane shaped like a fist SWDennis-style xD

Apparently the word starting with "N" and ending with "azi" gets auto-corrected to "pedant" now xD

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
