Switching to Steam?

With the new update out, I find it a hassle to re-download the game every time it updates, and as a result I wish to have the game on steam. I already own it off the website, so would it be possible to do a switch?

In general no. The option to transfer KSP Store licenses to Steam is only available for those who bought KSP before it originally came out on Steam, March 20th 2013. Note that if you do qualify for a transfer and choose to do it, the process is OPTIONAL and IRREVERSIBLE. If you transfer your purchase to Steam, you will no longer be able to download or update the game from the KSP Store. To move to Steam, log in to your KSP Store profile and you will find the button to start the process next to your download link. If you can’t see the button in your profile it means you purchased the game after it was on Steam and you are not eligible, no exceptions, please don’t insist.

Yeah, when I wanted to get in on the last pre-release, which was only available on Steam, I bought it again on Steam.

I've since uninstalled Steam since it's a huge hassle all by itself. It's much easier to just go to the KSP store and download it through the browser, than to battle Steam's "is it downloaded? yes? no? why not? why can't I get it to download?"

Edit: just a data point from my experience.

Strange. I'm using Steam all day and its great. I was thinking myself to buy a second opy of KSP just to have it on steam... for me the KSP store is a hassle.
