Thread Permalinks?

Hi,

In the original forum software it was possible to link to a thread by an ID (not the full title). Those old links still work, so I guess it must be possible, but I can't find a way to get a permalink using the current forum software.

Use-case is that a lot of mod-threads get updated as the mod gets updated, including their title. Hence it would be nice to be able to link to a thread using its thread-id rather than the full link.

Thanks,

 - Micha.

EDIT: Add example (and yes, I tried to use the "topic number" as a thread-id for other threads but it doesn't work):

Old Permalink thread link: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/81578

Same thread as new-style: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/73723-090-orbital-material-science-version-06/

Changing the title doesn't affect those links working. Example: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/73723-Mechjeb-being-added-to-stock-OMG-the-sky-is-falling

One quirk is that it doesn't work if you omit the title altogether, something must be there. So this won't work: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/73723 but this will: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/73723-A

Wasn't aware of the ?showtopic=id trick, thanks for that. :)

Maybe @UomoCapra or @Badie could look at that and maybe make it the default for links. I think that would be good.

But why? It's a change that would have to be made every time the forum software is updated (assuming it can be done at all), and the current links work fine.

The normal links are really long for me, but maybe have it be part of a 'share link', like how the normal thread URL in the omnibox stays the same and a 'share' link might be the ?showthread="id", kind of how YouTube has youtube.com and youtu.be.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
