Save games across versions?

I haven't been playing KSP for over a year and am starting to get back into it.  It at least used to be the case that save games were not necessarily safe after new versions were released.  As a result I have an older build for a long term career.  If I start over now, is my save game going to be fairly safe, even with new releases of KSP?

Since save upgrade system was introduced, I think your saves past 1.0 should be (almost) fine.

Sweet, I can archive off my old build just to be safe and get up to date.  (paranoid? me? never...)  Thanks!

well, keeping a backup is always good idea.

As the others have said, don't delete your saves, and if you're not sure copy them elsewhere, like your desktop

Install 1.2 as a fresh install, Leaving the installs from previous versions untouched,  copy the saves into the 'saves' folder.  Fire up the game and see how it goes.
