A suggestion to SQUAD (no, this is not about something controversial)

Hey guys.

I've noticed the lack of game models for community animating, and I'd like SQUAD to change that.

You see, the only models available are either outdated, or don't look much like the official ones.

By making the models available for animators, in my opinion, you guys at SQUAD would get basically free advertising, and animators would be able to bring ideas that were previously impossible into reality.

Take the success of VALVe's SFM, for example. It has given VALVe a lot of publicity, given fame to a lot of new content creators, and heck, they even have an annual competition for the best animations made.

Now, not releasing the models might be because of legal stuff, but how come VALVe doesn't have any problems with it? (if anyone here knows legalese feel free to opine)

But yeah. I think you guys are missing out on a great opportunity, and I'd like you guys to think about it.

Thanks.

Yes Yes Yes! The current model looks a bit robotic, lets get an updated one please!

I'm talking about including the official models with the KSP files, so that animators that have bought the game can animate using blender/SFM/whatever, not updating them. It would benefit both the content creators by increasing their public and benefit SQUAD by giving them free publicity.

Especially in combination with something like Kerbal Animation Suite.

I don't think a full blown animation suit is necessary, most animators use blender or some other 3D editor already

You're talking about releasing a rigged 3D model? Something that can be used in modelling software for renders and films and such?

I can imagine it would be technically simple for Squad to release the rigged models they have in their native software, Maya probably, but I'm not sure how easy it is to convert that for other modelling programs. Converting simple models between programs is easy, but rigging isn't.
