Docking port connection in VAB

Recommended Posts

I am building something akin to Pathfinder.

i.e. Lander with rover attached to the top.

But after I saved my rover as a subassembly, I can't get it to attach to my lander. Why doesn't KSP recognize two docking port jr. parts as nodes?

How can I fix this?

Subassemblies will try to attach through their root part. Did you set it to be one of the Jrs?

It does though, but your docking port on the rover needs to be the rovers root part.

Here's where the question "Why do I have to click twice to re-root my vessel?" is also answered.

I assume your Pathfinder is in the VAB, load in the rover using the merge button and place it to the side, press "4" then click the rover, then click the rovers docking port.

You can save a step by pressing 4 while the rover is held by the mouse, KSP assumes the sub-assembly (or the entire vessel) that you have picked up is the one you want to re-root.

Now the newly re-rooted rover will have a node to attach the docking port to the port on the Pathfinder.
