nose of probe spaceplanes?

I can't find any aerodynamic cones that are suitable for the front of a mk2 or mk3 spaceplane... what do people do? Always use a mk2 or mk3 cockpit?

ah, there are fuel converters to std cone shapes... just need to flip them round. Ignore me!

I usually use the shielded docking port.  Aerodynamic shape, high heat tolerance, and it serves a useful function as well.

For Mk2 inline cockpits (I assume that's what you are using), try using the Mk2/1.25m adapter (short or long works) and an aero cone or a NCS adapter and a CHN-J3 SAS unit. For Mk3, I would use something like the shielded docking port mentioned above or an aero cone or NCS+CHN-J3.

MK2 Expansion mod has some MK2 nose cones, intakes etc too.

LF blisters/drop tanks would be nice. Think the drop tanks used in several aircraft designs but with integrated aero cone, and increased LF storage.
