Actually, you should be able to hear that. The vibrations should transfer along the string to the helmet, and then into the suit's atmosphere. Of course, whoever is on the right needs to tighten that string up!

Your right, but the thickness of the helmet may reduce the vibrations to something that it unreadable with simply feeling. I say this because if you can fall 500 metres in a helmet they must be Prutty thick

Actually not. The vibrations won't travel through the slack part of the string.

Though I suppose it's possible some would make it through his arm and fingers and into where he's holding it taut.
