Dres-1

Dres, does it exist? Lots of people say it doesn't, and that's why I'm launching a lander to examine EVERYTHING about Dres. (In my science save)

This is a one way trip.

Equipment:

(Science)

-GRAVMAX Negative Gravioli Detector

-SC-9001 Science Jr.

-Mystery Goo™ Containment Unit

-PresMat Barometer (forgot it)

-2HOT Thermometer

-Atmospheric Fluid Spectro-Variometer

-Mobile Processing Lab MPL-LG-2

(No seismic detector due to it not being unlocked....)

(Refueling)

-'Drill-O-Matic' Mining Excavator

-Convert-O-Tron 250

----------------------------------------------------------

The mission will prove if Dres exists,

may luck be on the side of the

five fine Kerbals embarking

upon this mission.

There! I have visited 7 biomes with it!

Has some small issues...

Anemic thrust...

High center of mass...

A tendency to tip...

Not enough power to keep drill+ISRU running at the same time...

No Kerbnet connection...

Etc.

Nice all-in-one.  Some ideas:

- ring three small ISRUs around the lab instead of one big one stacked to lower center of mass, or maybe two ISRUs and two science Jrs flanking the lab.  All that might make a bit more top-heavy.

- solar panels look anemic for being that far from the sun- do you have Gigantor arrays researched?

- I find one or two drills is more than enough

- and yes, if you have MechJeb with docking, putting the space station in orbit can be a big help, too!

See my Jool multi-moon mission design.   I have three components (lander, orbital lab, fueling ship) to divide out:

Thanks for the center of mass tips, and the advice with the drills. I don't have my solar panels to that level yet through...I wish I did.

The things I race for in science:
- new experiments = more science
- whatever puts me on path to MechJeb/docking
- solar panels

And as soon as I get a science lab, I put one up and try to run everything through it for the 5x.   I have something like 16,000 excess science after filling out the tree before I landed anyone on a Jool Moon or Dres or Eeloo (just flybys).

Science Report:

pjE89Uu.png I got a lot of science for this...

eXjUaMc.png Low gravity.

2Zovszf.png This can happen anywhere on Dres.

kLJ8jdH.png "2001, A Space Odyssey" reference

wCB5FVQ.png This is found all over Dres.

glWi9EL.png You might think silica is only found at the whitish peaks on Dres...

91N7T7A.png ...But nope, the entire planet is covered in silicate dust.

And oh yeah, @cratercracker, here's your data, good luck!
