Drill-O-Matic burns while aerobraking

Recommended Posts

here's a ss of the part of the ship where I have a problem.
when I'm aerobraking on eve the mining excavator burns almost instantly.

near the drillomatic there are others stuffs, the TCS and the solar array that do not suffer with the heat.
why only the excavator explodes? and why as it is covered by a big shield?

I've just tried it with a rough copy of your craft and I don't get that problem.

You are managing to keep the craft retrograde OK?

You could just try detaching and re-attaching the drill to another part and moving it back to position.

(Though I'm not sure what you have going on with those extra stacks attached to the side of the craft).

I experienced this problems with drills too. Thus was mostly because off the drills looked like they are behind the Schild but where clipping Inside. There are some modes that Show you the mesh of parts but for me it was to complex . Than i tried a workaround with attaching the drills higher and adjust the drill one step higher and heatshild one step lower with the gismo. This works mostly good for me. Maybe it will help you too.

Similar issues with cargo bays. If you've got drills too close to the edges of the bay, it'll count them as unshielded (generating massive drag) even though they appear to be entirely inside.

I suspect that the collision mesh is slightly misaligned on both sizes of drill.

Or maybe through animation and Computer did not everytime count if it is in work or transport modus. I use the chain place->deploy->retract->ofset up->Save. After this ot looks to be counted as schilded.

With cargobays i has One time the behavor where i was forced to close the cargobay for unstoved.:D
