SpaceX Discussion Thread

Zuma is the secret god that causes all delays! Remember when Elon said "we should have a base on the Moon hells going on", well ZUMA is the reason why we have no Moon Base! We must scare away the secret Zuma god!

Hail Probe! Zuma shall not prevail!

All this talk about fairings has me thinking that Zuma (whatever it is) is barely small enough to fit in the fairing.

Now, to be fair, that didn't exactly stop the launch of the X-37b, but it may be the case that Zuma is tall as well as wide, and that there are concerns that it might get clobbered by the fairings on jettison.

OTOH, SpaceX have never had fairing problems, and we know Zuma is a pretty light payload, which one would think implies it's pretty small too. I don't know.

Seriously.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Falcon Heavy never.

Why, do you think it won’t work or that there isn’t a demand?

I mean, they have all the pieces... just strap em on and light em up!

But maybe they can’t afford the test launch without a customer...

wonder what the fairing issue in fact is. The delay into December of Zuma is partially because the eastern range is closing for a week.

All launches of single stick F9 aside from crew after Zuma will be SLC-40, so they can push FH out as soon as they get Zuma off the TEL.

Ah so. If Iridium’s got no issues, I’m guessing their whole “fairing problem” with Zuma is what’s inside the fairing. Maybe it’s interfering with the Klingon cloaking device.

or maybe the whole thing is just one big ruse to surreptitiously test something, and in a couple days Falcon Heavy will come rolling out right on time for a Thanksgiving static fire, and Musk will be all like, “GOTCHA!”

Or the Iridium has an older fairing version (fairing reuse?).

The payload might be tighter, too, we have no idea. The range closure mentioned means that the delay might be shorter, then the range closes, then it's December. Course then we'd see a NET date, probably.

Cool animation you found there. What would the BFR do at the ISS? Why would a 5 star private jet take a stop at an outdated and cramped airport :sticktongue:? Cargo? You mean a century worth of supplies?

Because right now it is the only place to go?

I find it amazingly optimistic that ISS will be functioning and/or intact by the time BFR launches.

BFR is big, but it's only a bit bigger than the Shuttle, which visited the ISS all the time.
