301 Stainless is super strong at very low and very high temperatures.

He really likes his steel... I mean I do too, it's literally one of the most important materials humanity has ever developed but I wasn't expecting him to dedicate about 5 solid minutes of his presentation talking about how great steel is.

ETA: ok so I decided to look up the grade of steel he said they were using and this stuff is pretty great. Strength and ductility wise, it seems to be on par with A514 which is a common high strength low alloy steal used in automotive (because it's strong and cheap). Welding doesn't seem to affect the strength much besides the fact that it will be normalized as soon as they perform their first entry maneuver.

Steel was the unobtanium  for almost two thousand years.
Yes you could make it sometimes and quality was idiotic hard to replicate.
Then stuff changed and we got railways and battlehips

Elon has never been a good speaker tbh. I just think it's really cool he's over there on that podium answering questions and inspiring people. I also don't get why people are saying that there is not that much new info.. i mean we get almost daily updates from the guy on twitter and since this is pretty much the final design there simply won't be any radical changes to talk about.

Oh, here comes the question about the tweet.

Says the bulk of their resources are still focused on Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon.

Says they will not have a problem with boiloff.

Answering a question about contamination of Mars. Obviously this is not built in a clean room.

Why is he now talking about SR-71? I guess it's supposed to be some reference to going fast.

"Mars has a massive amount of ice." Is that actually really established?

Talking some about sustainable fuels.

There's pretty good evidence for it. The issue is that the ice is mixed in with all the dirt everywhere but the poles. How are we going to suck out pure water from the dirty permafrost?

He's saying it will be roomy enough for 100 people. Then he says it's the same volume as the Space Station, on which six people live. Hmm.

You could do 100 people if every one of them is perfectly fine with never being alone.
