Good question, I hadn't noticed them. They have some duct around them and zooming in I see some small stakes around the tile, so perhaps it was a tile with gap issues that is being put to the position it should be?

The problem is that all of them are on the same row with 7 normal black tile between each of them

Since they seem to be fixed in place with tape they are maybe ontop of something SpaceX has to access again. If thats the case i would guess the red color is simply to mark those tiles, propably that noone forgets to properly attach them.

What happens to those lift hardpoints on the nosecone? Do they fold in, or are they removed, or what?

Looking at it zoomed in they will be an problem, they does not fold in as its no slot below the pad they rest on and you will need to remove the shackle anyway. So they have to be removed to the lower shackle and can then be covered with an plate with TP panels on. Downside is that this has to be done after stacking so 100 meter up. Now its possible the design will change before launch, having an detachable upper part and and the bottom acting like an hatch with TP who closes the hole.

It definitely won't change before S20 launch, but it's one of the things that they plan to use Mechazilla for. The easiest change, which should be possible for the S25 series already, would be lifting Ship around with the cranes the same way as now when it needs to go around Starbase, then cover the lifting points before stacking and take it up to above Booster by grabbing it from the flaps. Later on it could probably be improved again to allow lifting without removing the heat shield tiles at all even when it needs to be put above an SPMT if necessary, but that's longer term

It's not clear to me what happened to all those tiles. Did they do something that caused them to break or shift? (Pressure testing or something?) Or did they just not install them correctly in the first place?

Either answer is problematical. Either it means the design is not robust (yet) or it means the installation process is not of sufficient quality (yet).

Neither, the problem was that they continued applying them in a rush out of the high bay. We know that they already had extra tiles when the stacking was supposed to happen, so they filled the big hole that there was in the heat shield fast and at the launch site before stacking. The rest of the ship has next to zero broken tiles

Or the thermal expansion did it.

Well, that sounds a lot like "they just did not install them correctly in the first place".

Yes, but luckily, the process is correct if the rest of the ship is to be taken as example. It's the rushing that ruined it mostly, plus perhaps also the oddity of the shape of the nosecone and the fact that it was the first time installing there (the barrel had already seen installation on SN10,11 and 15 and it's all the same). We'll just have to wait and see how it goes in S21+

Of course they didn’t. This is the first time we’ve seen a tiled nosecone at all, there’s going to be a learning process rife with mistakes. That’s how they learn. We’ve seen plenty of other false starts that went straight to the scrapyard because they didn’t turn out quite right, big difference here is they can fix it instead of just starting over. Remember how rough the Mk-x’s and early SNs looked compared to today?

Interesting news on the S20 plans (from the usual spacex insider):
- "No thrust tests for S20. Straight to 3 engine fitting, air pressure test, then N2 cryo, then statics. 3 Rvac fitting, and statics for those too."
- "Can't do all 6 [raptors] together on the stand. It would be like testing the Space Shuttle tied to a picnic bench."
