Or might they be mitigating risk in case of another ker(bal)fuffle, like how they did static fires sans payload for a while after Amos-6? That's far from certain of course I agree, the missing aerocovers might simply be that they are not needed for static tests and make the engines easier to inspect between tests. More so in that the upcoming tests are the outer engines who is spin up with nitrogen from the base. Benefit with B7 is that you can splash it rater than try to recover on first flight with just simulated flight data as its already an previous version while B8 is better. Unsure on firing, but they took the central engines out, so any test in the near future is only with the outer ring of 20 engines, not the 13 in the middle. tater Posted August 9, 2022 Share Posted August 9, 2022 Keeping Cygnus around is great, and actually pretty important. It's dissimilar from Cargo Dragon in many useful ways. 1. It can boost ISS. 2. It berths, and docking ports are in short supply (this is huge from a scheduling POV). 3. The berthing hatch is larger, which impacts what they can send/remove from ISS in volume terms.
