Finally got back to doing my drawings! I decided that I should revise the rendering I did of EPIC 220221272.03 and 04, as both the surface and atmosphere designs came out rather poor. Then again, they WERE my first sophisticated planet drawings with GIMP. Once I'm done with those I will finish up the rest of the EPIC 220221272 system while keeping planet 05 the same. Right now I have an improved EPIC 220221272.03 done.

I tried a few different things this time. First off, you may notice that the atmospheric haze goes over the surface of the planet. That was done to make the atmosphere as a whole feel more realistic. One other major difference is how the canyons turned out. They were outlined with the same color as the lava flows, because my vision of this planet was to have front side canyon ranges caused by extreme tidal friction. As a result the dried-up lava is a result of those canyons, so it makes sense to outline them in the same color. It transitions far better as well. The slopes were also designed to clearly be separate from the canyon floors. Finally, I gave each zone on the planet its own unique terrain texture design. The canyon surface is covered in large, rugged hill-like features caused by tidal forces. The basalt flows have smaller jagged hills, this time caused by lava quickly piling up and cooling in small lumps. These two are unlike the yellow deserts, which are much smoother in design because they are means to be covered in rolling dunes. Alongside EPIC 220221272.05, this is probably my best planet drawing to date. It took me about half an hour just to make this one!

@cratercracker Can you make a section for exoplanet drawings in the OP?

 

Also in case anyone's wondering, yes, I WILL be going the second part of the Daily Roundup from last week, probably tonight or tomorrow. Just wanted to get that out there.

Just finished the new version of EPIC 220221272.04!

Like with the previous image, I put the atmosphere haze layer over both the background and main planet. This drawing features some extra cool details. These include small volcanoes, large impact basins with rippled ridges around them, and spiky peaks on the highlands.

Can you tell the names in a correct order? (Closest to parent star to furthest ones)

The order of the whole system is C03, C04, C02 (not done yet), C05, and C01 (not done yet). I know, it's weird, but that's just how they were found. 

Once I'm done with EPIC 220221272, I'll move onto both of my three-planet systems.

I'm not kidding, the planets were designated C(insert number). In fact that's the way my group names all candidates. But the full names for this system are...

EPIC 220221272.03

EPIC 220221272.04

EPIC 220221272.02

EPIC 220221272.05

EPIC 220221272.01.

Like I said before, candidates 2 and 1 are not done yet and are my next goal.

Too bad most of the cool objects are already drawn. What about those from outside?

Trappist-1, Proxima Centauri, Lich, Gliese 581, 55 Cancri... So many systems exoplanets which lack this kind of art! Their only limit is imagination! (and a good hand for cool drawings) Make the dream true!
