KSP Interstellar Extended Continued Development Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey freethinker, I don't think I've chipped in here before, but I really enjoy the updates you keep for KSPI, I've been using it ever since it was first released, and it's a big part of my modlist for any version!

that being said, and because I can't find a proper thread for it, do you know the people behind the filterextentions module? it seems to be the mod that expands and changes around the categories in the VAB that you package with KSPI. because I can find not a single category with fuel tanks. have to go into the advanced filters and filter by liquid fuel to find them.

aand then you post something just now where i should ask this. silly me for reading it without realizing.

bug with incorrect thermal power reserve especially awkward when molten salt (smallest version) used with magneto inertial fusion engine - for some reason energy is not enough, but theoretical supply states that there is 1.5 times more than needed.

other bugs (forgot to combine them with previous posts):

interstellar drop tank (only tank which supports lithium) when switched to lithium it do says deuterium one place,

it's very incorrectly placed (moved) in editor mode,

and any symmetric tank produces situation, that tank type change ends with gui error (expanding tank description with duplicate storage and mass is also changed).

it think that current bug with power reserve should have workaround with manual reserve (set inside power generator) in the fly, and so corresponding reactor power would be strictly reserved for ordered electric power generation.

thermal ramjet nozzle (i mean general purpose here) can't be set to any propellant (hydrogen in my case) if attached to drop tank via cubic octagonal strut.

it looks like problem is "no reactor attached" seems like molten salt is ignored

and also

[EXC 19:48:03.001] MissingFieldException: Field '.MapView.MapIsEnabled' not found.
        Toolbar.ToolbarManager.handleGameSceneChange ()
        Toolbar.ToolbarManager.Update ()

i think main problem of kspie now is a lot of bugs....

well yes and no. No you cannot play KSPI 1.1.3 in KSP 1.2 but a if any parts are missing, they can simply be copied from the old version. I hope that help you

Oh wow. So obvious and simple (I'm embarrassed now).  Thanks so much!!!!!

-edit: such a simple and elegant solution. No overwriting required; cut and paste and go. I was able to recover from a quick save! Thank you again.

Something isn't right....

If fuel consumption is really 19 mg per DAY, then after 2 years and 66 days it should consume around 15 grams, not 1 063 000 grams of hydrogen.

It seems like hydrogen consumption is in mg/second, not mg/day - its around 56 000 times off (should be 86 400 times, but I rounded few numbers here and there)

Pretty 22nd century craft though (it would be hopefully 23rd century, if it had warp drive - Stellaris reference ;))

Gah. So much unnecessary complexity. :D
Needs a zero-point-module.
Actually, if your using my EM module at a 400kn scale, You'll probably be interested in the cluster one i'll be making sometime this week probably. :)

Yes, your right, is this looking better?

Can we have Reactor/Engine table separated in 3 sections: Fission\Fusion\Antimatter sections?

These parts should be listed by unlock technology, since cost is invalid, as reactors/engines can have only certain sizes. I'm talking about second table in OP.

Head's up, when I select KSP Interstellar Extended from CKAN, or try to update it, I get the following error (from CKAN):

When I click on the link on the front page for v1.2 of Interstellar, the link is 404.

(CKAN problem. Will take to the appropriate thread, if I can't troubleshoot it myself. Apologies, I thought it was a mod bundled with IE. Also, either the link is fixed, or my Internet had a really weird hiccup.)

Why EM drive loses thrust, when radiators get very hot?

If it can't get rid of it waste heat, it start to fry. EM is supposed to function by bouncing microwaves around, but most of the power will end up only heating up the container. If this heat isn't properly removed, it would start to melt. In this sense it it very similar to a processor, which need to be kept cool, and similarity it performance will degrade if it start overheating...

Hmmm. I think i have to make a reactor now.

I wonder if the EM drive function in this configuration ...

so what is optimal radiator temperature?

Too small area, and EM loses thrust, too large, and EM has less TWR, as radiators adds to mass of ship.

So if I have 5m EM engine, larger than 5 EM QSR to fully power EM engine and big radiators, then how big radiators I should have?

Hard to tell, I prefer about 50% waste-heat accumulation at maximum power, which will leave wiggle some room. For the amount of radiators needed, look at the picture, the radiator width is about 3 times the height of the reactor ...

Is there a way to store power? I essentially can't run the EM drive on stored power with solar panels? the megajoules system only appears to let me run directly on power i get from solar panels. This is probably the noobest of noob questions. :)

Not sure what you mean. As its entirely self contained i don't think there's any reason it couldn't be used inline. If I'm wrong i might need to modify the mesh. lol

so checking out the power transmission stuff microwave in particular. I think its busted cant seem to find a xmitter even though the descriptions list multiple ones. and the cfg/s seem to contain xmitter code but it seems to be named the same thing as the reciever.

I verified and it indeed seems to work. Te ability to have a inline engine is actually a big boon, it means it can be combined with other engines without much problems
