Released on 2016-06-26

  • Compiled against KSP 1.1.3
  • Replaced ORS Surface and Ocean resource gathering by Stock resource gathering system
  • Molten Salt Reactor can now breed tritium using Lithium6
  • Added harvesting of Alumina, Borate, Hydrates, Monazite, SolarWind, Uraninite. SaltWater, Silicates and Water to Stock Resource Drill
  • Added ability to scan Alumina, Borate, Hydrates, Monazite, SolarWind, Uraninite. SaltWater, Silicates and Water with Orbital Scanner and
  • Surface Scanner (disabled when SCANstat is installed)
  • IRSU Refiniery now also accepts Electric Charge for imput
  • Added HeavyWater Electrolysis to IRSU Refinery
  • Added Borate Processing to IRSU Refinery
  • Added Silicates Processing to IRSU Refinery
  • Added SolarWind Processing to IRSU Refinery
  • Added SaltWater Processing to IRSU Refinery

Are there MFT/ISRU integrated ore tank for these?

And what I can find in solarwind? All isotopes of H/He/Lithium?

EDIT:

Cant get 1.9 version - ckan and curse have outdated version

Now there is, website was bit slow.

The resource Solar Wind contains everything found in Solar Wind, which includes Helium3 but only as a small fraction; Solar Wind mostly consists of Hydrogen and Helium which are useful as well for any Interstellar Engine

I initially called the resource Regolith, but this might be confusing as it once was used as a generic resource found everywhere. Therefore I call it by its Origin, the Solar Wind which emitted by the Sun

SolarWind  van only be found on atmpspherelss moon and planets. Best location for SolarWind are polar craters and Closer to the sun , like Gily and Moho which also contains in interesting pit into the crust. To Bad that the real world equivant of Moho , Mercury does have a very weak atmosphere, it would have made Helium3 mining very useful :-(

SolarWind harvesting is currently done with a stock drill which seems unproductive, but in the near future I hope to replace it by a Harvester that looks something like this

Not yet, perhaps you can create them for me, when I will add them in the next patch.

Note the harvest Drill contains a small reservoir of every raw resource it can harvest,  meaning if you have a IRSU refinery on the same vessel, you can convert them directly into basic resource

THIS IS CRUDE IMPLEMENTATION.

Someone with better knowledge of mass ratios/MFT needs to adjust all mass ratios of resources here.

I just copied waters config for salt/heavy water and alumina config for all new ores.

Consider this as beta and in need of better adjustment. Most of these mass ratios doesn't match with IFS mass ratios.

Solar wind have half of hydrogen mass ratio, as this is going to be emergency gas storage.

I think there needs to be 6 classes of IFS tanks:

Edit: Moved to IFS.

Note there is a big problem with Stock Ore. The problem is stock ISRU allowes you to create Hypergolic fuels  (=MMH/N2O2) and Monopropellant (=Hydrazine) from it. All of these fuels require Nitrogen. The Problem is that Nitrogen is very rare on the Moon even in Mantle Rock and is very scare in Moon Regolith or Any mineral found on the moon. In short, In my view Ore is overpower and unrealistic as it effectively allow you to ignore searching for any realistic resources for fuel like Hydrogen from Solar Wind, frozen Water on the Polar Craters or Aluminum for most Moon Rock. In short, It's very unlikely we will be able to Cook up significant amount  LiquidFuel / Oxidiser on the moon using only local resources.

I'm not seeing KSPI with my CKAN, I don't know if I messed something up, I've tried with a fresh download of CKAN on an empty fresh download from steam of the latest version of the game.

Also I only see 180 compatible mods right now, can anyone else confirm if that is the case?

So how to override creation of liquid fuel/oxidizer/monopropellant from ore without interfering with other mods?

Not sure, one idea it to still allow it, but at much lower inefficiencies, Another idea is to make Ore only available on Nitrogen Rich planets, moons and asteroids, which would exclude the Mun, Moho, but Minimus might have once have had an atmosphere and therefore contain Nitrogen

Looks like resource tank clean up suggestion has to be here after all:

I think there needs to be 6 classes of IFS tanks:

Ore - all non-radioactive stuff, that you extract from ground. Salt/Heavy water counts here too.

Fission materials - these radioactive materials and their products/ores containing them

Solid fuels/propellants - normally solid substances, that aren't ore

Liquid fuels/propellants - liquid substances, can contain most of liquefied gasses

Pressurized gas fuels/propellants - noble gasses fall in here

Heavy duty cryogenic tanks (for these substances with very low boiling points, for example <50 kelvin) - because Helium 3 is special snowflake. You could allow all H/He isotopes to be here.

So in the end I want to see 6 procedural IFS tanks (you can set their dimensions as you want, but resources are limited to their class),

Antimatter is even more special snowflake - it must have is own part.

Also Hydrates should be converted into H2O and CH4 but it can contain CO2

And ore is stock resource, that is converted to liquidfuel/oxidizer/monoproperlant.

v7sdol.jpg

I'll write here names shown by Advanced Resource Panel - its same names as in configs.

General Purpose Liquid Resource Tank (best mass ratio - 1:8 - 1:10, no special requirements for them) can contain:

LiquidFuel, Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LqdHydrogen, LqdHelium, LqdNitrogen, LqdOxygen, LqdCO2, LqdCO, Water, HTP, LqdMethane, LqdAmmonia, Hydrazine.

It also can contain combinations of fuel/oxidizer: LiquidFuel/Oxidizer, Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen.

It could contain SaltWater/HeavyWater, but these resources doesn't seem to be used as fusion fuel/propellant, but on other hand doesn't fit in ore tank.

Pressurized Gas Tank (Low mass ratio, like 1:3 - 1:5, as resources are in gaseous state):

NeonGas, ArgonGas, KryptonGas, XenonGas, SolarWind

SolarWind is collection of resources, just like SaltWater or Ore - you get multiple resources from processing them.

Ore Tank (Low mass ratio like 1:1 - 1:4, but being denser than GPLRT or PGT in same total volume):

Ore, Hydrates, Alumina, Borate, Silicates

You have to process them for further use.

Solid Resource Tank (Low mass ratio of 1:1 - 1:4, and high tank density, as solids needs to be powdered):

Lithium, Lithium6, Aluminium, Boron

These can be used as fusion fuel or propellant.

Radioactive Resource Tank (Lowest mass ratio of 1:1 - 1:3, and densest of all tanks, as its need to be shielded):

Monazite, Uraninite, EnrichedUranium, UraniumNitride, UF4, ThF4, DepletedFuel, Actinides

Tread carefully with these.

Heavy Duty Cryonics Tank (moderate mass ratio of 1:4 - 1:8, can contain He3, and have reduced loss rate when unpowered)

LqdHydrogen, LqdDeuterium, LqdTritium, LqdHelium, LqdHe3, Hexaborane

They also can have resource combinations set for fusion modes - tailored for D-T, D-He3, H-B11,  D-Li6 , H-Li7 and  H-Li6 fusion modes.

Ratios shouldn't change across engines and reactors.

Antimatter Tank - because it is too volatile and needs magnetic trap.

Energy usage should go into MW territory, when holding 1 kg of antimatter.

The 6 IFS tanks actualy already exisit but they are located in KSPI-E. Perhaps would be an idea to transfer them (and all resourc  gathering related stuff) to IFS package. Technically it should be possible and would allow IFS to specialize more in universal resource storage and gathering

Note that I explicitly mention Universal Resource gathering as we need some way to make the resource harvester switchable, similary you can do now for a tank, you switch resource gathing mode. This should allow you to create Surface/Ocear/Atmosphere resource gatherrers that can switch to a multitude of minable resources. It would also be able to switch storage resources at the sam time, similar to how texture switches which resource content. This will also reduce resource cluting and make it a bit more intuitive

These fuels tanks are inconsistent! - some have certain resources settings and others doesn't.

There are 3 different inline AND radial cryostats, while one of each kind would suffice.

There are 3 different nuclear radial tanks - one could be changed into solid container, other into radioactive solid container and another into ore container - this way we could have solid radial tanks.

Inline solid/radioactive solid resource tank could be based on stock ore tank.

Also there is random water tank and liquid fuel tank.

Liquid fuel tank should be hidden from view and water tank could be used as universal storage tank for all resources in given class - it could hold all normal resources, or gaseous resources, or H/He isotopes, or normal solids, or ores, or radioactive resources.

I wasn't sure where to suggest tank clean up.

23sx5cn.jpg

Now lets do sanity check for standard tanks:

wqqxdv.jpg

These tanks should able to hold 14 different types of resources and 3 fuel/oxidizer combinations.

LiquidFuel, Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LqdHydrogen, LqdHelium, LqdNitrogen, LqdOxygen, LqdCO2, LqdCO, Water, HTP, LqdMethane, LqdAmmonia, Hydrazine.

It also can contain combinations of fuel/oxidizer: LiquidFuel/Oxidizer, Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen.

Since all these tanks have X-Number in their names except adapter, I'll refer them by X.

X2: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water )

X8: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X16: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X24: 9 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water ; huh?)

X48: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; LiquidFuel)

Nose Tank: 10 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

Adapter: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X48 Wrapper: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP)

X96 Wrapper: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water ; HTP )

Radial Sphere: 10 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

So only 9 resources are consistent in fuel tanks.

X48 has LiquidFuel instead of HTP, and X24 doesn't even have HTP setting.

3 fuel tanks have more settings:

X2: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

X48 Wrapper: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

X96 Wrapper: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

To recap:

Missing resources: Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LiquidFuel/Oxidizer setting, LqdHelium

Inconsistent resources: LiquidFuel (only in X48 inline),  HTP (missing in X24 inline)

Lithium6/7 can be moved to solid tank, and hexaborane/deuterium/tritium can be moved to heavy duty cryonics.

Woh, that looks like a lot of work.  Reading it over I agree with all of it, but we might want to make some considerations for usability on the X tanks.  If we can pick what it will contain from a list, having 17 options is fine, but if we have to cycle through the list with the next and previous buttons, we should try to limit the list to only useful things.

Note that despite the 2 cycle buttons are still visible (my mistake) the prefered method of selecting is the slider at the top which allows you quick access to a particualr resource, if you know where it is. Still it would be usefull if an pulldown menu option was avialble allowing you to select the sesource from a list

Good suggestions, but what models to use? If not exsiting, What should they look like? Specificly the Solid and Radioactive tanks

There must be another mod doing it in my install, but for things like procedural fuel tank I can click a button called show UI and pick from a list of different fuels, even partition one tank with lithium and hydrogen for example.  I don't remember if it works on KSPI tanks, but I thought it was part of interstellar fuel switch.  I guess I'm wrong, maybe it's modular fuel tanks?

this is a nuclear waste storage tank, might be a good start figure4_4.gif

unactivated nuclear fuel requires minimal shielding (often in the for of U-238) depending on the fuel type. once it has been used then you need something like the above, or a container made of steel and some kind of radiation absorber, on earth concrete is used, but very impractical for space

Oh and Interstellar Extending is not listed in CKAN anymore @FreeThinker.  I have confirmed with a maintainer in CKAN that it's in the repository but is not showing up in the client.  I think you should create an issue on their tracker and they can try to fix it for you.

EDIT: Here is the reason:

[09:35] <Blu3wolf> Liquid5n0w: KSP Interstellar Extended is still in CKAN, but is hidden (even from the All section) because blizzy's Toolbar hasnt been updated to 1.1.3 yet. If you have a KSP version of 1.1.2, and point CKAN to it, KSP Interstellar Extended will show up again.

Maybe you should remove all requirements from the listing and make them recommendations instead?

Nuclear waste is a seperate problem in space because what is holding you back to dump the nuclear waste overboard? One solution I can think of is to give it a high value, which you earn back if you recover the the waste back on Kerbin.

Good point @FreeThinker , just random ideas for nuclear containment. it wouldn't be a problem if the reactor is far from the inhabited part of the ship and there is some kind of radiation shield for the rest of the ship.

I would also think that refueling would be problematic since if you use steel it easily gets irradiated, i don't know about aluminum, but steel is preferred since it does a better job with radiation containment. and irradiated steel would wreak havoc on electronics

Good suggestions, but what models to use? If not exsiting, What should they look like? Specificly the Solid and Radioactive tanks

General tank: Same as before, but with sanity check.

Resources: LiquidFuel, Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LqdHydrogen, LqdHelium, LqdNitrogen, LqdOxygen, LqdCO2, LqdCO, Water, HTP, LqdMethane, LqdAmmonia, Hydrazine, SaltWater, HeavyWater

It also can contain combinations of fuel/oxidizer: LiquidFuel/Oxidizer, Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen.

Now lets do sanity check for standard tanks:

wqqxdv.jpg

These tanks should able to hold 14 different types of resources and 3 fuel/oxidizer combinations.

LiquidFuel, Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LqdHydrogen, LqdHelium, LqdNitrogen, LqdOxygen, LqdCO2, LqdCO, Water, HTP, LqdMethane, LqdAmmonia, Hydrazine.

It also can contain combinations of fuel/oxidizer: LiquidFuel/Oxidizer, Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen.

Since all these tanks have X-Number in their names except adapter, I'll refer them by X.

X2: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water )

X8: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X16: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X24: 9 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water ; huh?)

X48: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; LiquidFuel)

Nose Tank: 10 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

Adapter: 10 resources, 2 fuel/oxidizer settings. ( LqdHydrogen ; Lqd(Hydrogen/Methane)/Oxygen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

X48 Wrapper: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP)

X96 Wrapper: 13 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water ; HTP )

Radial Sphere: 10 resources. ( LqdHydrogen ; LqdOxygen ; LqdMethane ; LqdAmmonia ; Hydrazine ; LqdNitrogen; LqdCO2 ; LqdCO ; Water; HTP )

So only 9 resources are consistent in fuel tanks.

X48 has LiquidFuel instead of HTP, and X24 doesn't even have HTP setting.

3 fuel tanks have more settings:

X2: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

X48 Wrapper: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

X96 Wrapper: Lithium ; LqdDeuterium ; Hexaborane

To recap:

Missing resources: Oxidizer, MonoPropellant, LiquidFuel/Oxidizer setting, LqdHelium - add them to all tanks

Inconsistent resources: LiquidFuel (only in X48 inline),  HTP (missing in X24 inline) - add to rest of tanks

Lithium6/7 can be moved to solid tank, and hexaborane/deuterium/tritium can be moved to heavy duty cryonics.

Add new SaltWater/HeavyWater, as they are best suited for liquids.

Heavy Duty Cryonics tank: There are already 3 cryonic tank models.

We could choose shortest tank, and change 2 others, so they would have length 2x and 3x of standard tank.

Resources: LqdHydrogen, LqdDeuterium, LqdTritium, LqdHelium, LqdHe3, Hexaborane

Can contain fusion mix settings, that don't have lithium in them.

Pressurized Gas Tank:

It would be 2x, 5x, 10x and (these vanilla tanks are very...flat) length of stock xenon tank (we can just add IFS patch to stock xenon tank), it would actually look like stock xenon tanks stacked on each other.

Resources: NeonGas, ArgonGas, KryptonGas, XenonGas, SolarWind

Ore tank:

Stock ore tank with IFS patch, and 2x/3x length variants - same length variants for solid/radioactive tanks..

Radial ore/solid tank wouls be based on stock radial ore tank.

Resources: Ore, Hydrates, Alumina, Borate, Silicates

Solid Resource Tank:

Resources: Lithium, Lithium6, Aluminium, Boron

Radioactive Resource Tank

Resources: Monazite, Uraninite, EnrichedUranium, UraniumNitride, UF4, ThF4, DepletedFuel, Actinides

Normal/Cryonics/Pressurized/Ore/Solid/Radioactive tanks could have radial variants.

Radial radioactive tank would looks like one of these KSPI radial tanks.

Inline versions could have 2x/3x length variants.  Solid Resource tank would be grey, and radioactive tank would be dark green (or looking like radial KSPI tank) with radioactivity symbol plastered on it.

Liquid fuel tank, 2 cryostat tanks and all but one radial tank would be removed from game. (leave antimatter radial tank)

Water tank would be reporpused  to fusion mix tank - it could have settings and ratios like on fusion reactions table on main post. (fusion modes: D-T, D-He3, T-T, D-Dp-B11, D-Li6, He3-He3, p-Li7, p-Li6, p-p-p-p, Microfusion (D, HE3, UraniumNitride)

There could be inline fusion mix tank - would be grey as water tank.

Fusion Mix Tank would be unlocked with fusion, and more modes would be accessible when these reactions are unlocked. Same thing would be with fusion mix modes in heavy duty cryonics tank, but it wouldn't contain any lithium reactions.

Here is example how tanks would look like:

10x pressurized gas (length of X48 inline tank):

fkm8sk.jpg

3x (length of X48 inline tank) Ore/Radioactive/Solid tank (Solid could be grey, and Radioactive would be either dark green, or like KSPI radial tank.

mcyvs5.jpg

3x Cryostat Tank (length of x48 inline)

1zeb479.jpg

I want to see tanks based on these tanks in pics.
