What in the world is source?

Recommended Posts

Every single mod I look at, I find source.

I've been playing since around 0.25, never joined the forums. But I did use the forums a lot. Mostly for mods and troubleshooting.

But, WHAT IS SOURCE?

Thanks.

I got 2 answers for that:

1.
any thing or place from which something comes, arises, or isobtained; origin:
Which foods are sources of calcium?
2.
the beginning or place of origin of a stream or river.
3.
a book, statement, person, etc., supplying information.
4.
the person or business making interest or dividend payments.
5.
a manufacturer or supplier.

It refers to source code. These are the files and assets the mod creator has used to create the mod in question. Last time I checked, the forum rules require every mod author to make these available somewhere so other users can check if the mod is malicious or can modify / refactor the code themselves if the license allows it.

Hi Vaxuality! Welcome to the forums!

I assume the "source" you are referring to is a "source code", which can be used to rebuild the mod into binary form or link against its functions. :)

Alright, thank you guys!

Good day.

I hope the "Your content will need to be approved by a moderator" will ve removed after a couple of posts where I will be "trusted".

Yup! It's a measure we take against spambots, so they don't spam.

You need 5 posts outside of The Lounge in order for your posts to appear without moderator approval. You're almost there!
