How do you suppose Kerbals engrave the plaques for flags?

They have a stock of every possible combination of any plaque you can imagine. They just pick up the correct one that matches the user's entry.

Where they store them? Same way as their eat, bro. ^^

I like to think its a screen on the flag. The flag proper has solar cells built into it to provide power.

Like the topic title says, how do they manage to produce long lasting writing on metal in vacuum?

The Kerbals type text into a smartphone app and the plaque is 3D printed on the spot.

How about they just take the plaque before the mission with what you want on it, but you just did not know and they can read minds outside the computer they live in? And could possibly cause a global catastrophe resulting in the death of millions of people?

Their urine is highly acidic and Kerbals have fantastic pee-nmanship
