How to make Turret mounts and bearings?

Recommended Posts

So i need some advice on how to make turret mounts and bearings, currently i am using a hollow liquid fuel tube and a separator at the bottom and then putting octagon struts in to make a "hinge" kinda thing. But when i load my craft it sadly tilts horribly, so i tightened it and it just glitched out :/  Any help would be great!

Without pictures it's hard to know what you're doing wrong. Maybe post some screenshots?

From my limited experience with such contraptions it's vital that the two parts that are moving relative to each other are actually separate craft. You can either achieve this with a separator or a set of docking ports for a resettable connection. The trick is to keep the two parts from falling out of alignment before you separate them though as the colliers won't be respected. But without screen shots that's as much as I can help you.

What do you mean by RCS balls? You mean the place anywhere linear RCS ports?

Yes exactly those. People including my self have used them to great effect in things like these.

The rotor assembly is held on by RCS balls. Literally nothing else.

Also how would you arrange them? Can I get a close up view of the bearings?

They are arranged so that a group of RCS balls is holding one in the middle, attached to the moving part (in this case, some mechanical contraption) Two sets are used so that it is firmly sandwiched to make sure the parts don't move.

I've built a turret kinda thing, take a look at how it works. Uses the same RCS ball technique. Helps I think the most to actually take a look.

For some reason I still don't get that picture :(

Ok huh.

The thing in green rotates. The ball in blue is attached to the thing in green. The red balls holds it stationary, but allows it to rotate since its not the same craft. Understand more?

Also, might be a good idea to check out the craft  file. Might make more sense than from pictures.
