The Hero of the Soviet Union, the Hero of Russia and the holder of the world record for the duration of a flight into space (437 days) Valery Polyakov died

He was 80 years old.

“He lived and worked at the Mir orbital station for 437 days, which is an absolute record for the duration of stay in space in one flight,” the state corporation said. - In total, the record holder has two space expeditions with a total duration of 678 days 16 hours.

Fingers crossed, everything will go smoothly and without raising any tension.

This has already failed, the railroad tracks are not smooth (none are, suspension on the cars merely gives the illusion they are) and a number of the ground crew probably have tense backs from bending over to get stuff ready over the past weeks.

In part three (?) of "how to confuse the attention-deficient public with headlines", Borisov is now being quoted as saying that Russia won't exit the ISS until 2028. What he's actually saying is that there's a hard commitment until 2024 and after that, an extension is "highly likely".

Why is the year of choice for Roscosmos 2028 instead of 2030 so it can be disposed of in one go?

I’m not sure about costs, but so long as a serious technical danger doesn’t arise, from a practicality POV it seems like it would be easier to extend the ROS life for just two more years instead of trying to separate them.

Or would splitting the station be easier than I think?

So the ROS would sit derelict for two more years?

Or it would have to be jettisoned by someone else. My best take on the Russiam plan is that the whole station gets deorbited in 2028.

Is Elon Errolovich really that excited about Dmitry Olegovich's likely imminent new job?

Rogozin is just that much of a threat to SpaceX. Need to keep him in *that place* instead of building innovative trampolines that threaten Starship’s commercial viability.

65th anniversary of Sputnik, and the Ministry of Defence decides to slop6in that it "conducts experiments with other nations' satellites in orbit".

This isn’t that odd actually. I think reconnaissance ships (actual reconnaissance ships, not hydrographic vessels) were deployed in “oceanography” squadrons in the VMF.

Checking just now, it looks like they continue to do so in the present day VMF RF.

The other nations satellites emit the reflected sunlight and their own unfrared in our direction.

Of course, we should experiment with the objects which are irradiating us with photons.

Russia will keep flying to ISS until her own orbital infrastructure gets built.

Indefinitely, then.  Or at least until the end of the ISS. If there even exists a Russian crewed spaceflight program by then, I'll be surprised.

I'm all for saving ISS in orbit as long as possible. So many KSP mods represent it, so many modders would be sad to have it lost.

I'll be surprised if Starship/SH will ever fly and return, and wondering what will all those fancy new spaceships be visiting after ISS fall, as other station projects are at even lower degree of completion thsn ROSS (it at least has metal modules).

But you are right, launching metal barrels to space is a magic, restricted to only a few.
Say, look at EU and UK. Still nothing like Vostok is launched, so we can cooperate when the Starship dream will bury viable projects.
