How to measure heat flow?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if I was too vague. I have now hopefully found a solution for the first problem: the  part.thermalConductionFlux  seems to be what I need.

My other question was: could a custom module on a part manipulate e.g. the thrust settings of that part?

Re: heat -- there is also:

part.thermalConvectionFlux (between part and atmosphere)
part.radiationFlux (between part and...uhh.. space..)

Thrust manipulation -- sure.  Might have compatibility issues with other part-modules that attempt to do the same thing, but as long as only one is manipulating the thrust (and it is done correctly), there should be no problems.  TCA (Throttle Controlled Avionics) does pretty much exactly that.  My engine clustering and procedural SRB modules manipulate engine module's thrust as well (let me know, can provide links to source examples if desired).
