Can't get to the mun

So, assuming you can get to a stable orbit around Kerbin, when you make the manoeuvre node for Trans-Munar-Injection and burn, your problem is that the ship flies past the moon?

Get your node set to get to the Mun, which I'm assuming you're getting just fine.  You will have a Mun escape.  Then click on the Mun and hit Focus View

Which will zoom into the Mun and show you your path past it.  Set a second node at the periapsis, and drag the retrograde slider until you get into orbit.

When creating a node to intercept the Mun, providing you aren't on an actual collision course, you will get a Mun encounter, and a Mun escape.  Between these two points is where your craft will be within the sphere of influence of the Mun.  You should also have a Periapsis marker between the encounter and escape markers.  If you burn retrograde at that point you should get captured by the Mun and find yourself in orbit around it.

Your current Pe is blue.  The orange Pe marker is to indicate where your new Pe will be after your burn, at which point, the original blue Pe marker will disappear and the orange one will turn blue.

Note that unless you do a VERY precise burn, your final Pe won't actually end up where the marker(s) is/are.  It could be very close to the spot where it showed up when you set up the node, or it could be all the way around to the other side.  That's not really a big deal unless you really need that kind of precision, say for something like a comms constellation.

Edit:  If you look, you should have an estimated burn time.*  If your burn time is something like ten seconds, you should start your burn five seconds before you reach the node, and continue it five seconds AFTER you pass the node.  It won't hurt to start the burn when you contact the node, unless you have a long burn - I wouldn't do that for any burn longer than 30 seconds - you just won't end up in exactly the orbit you planned for.

*Estimated burn times assume a max throttle burn.

It looks like it will work, though it could be neater ... are you going to go for a landing?  If not, I'd say go ahead, but if so, I'd get your Mun periapsis lower (adding a bit more delta-v to the first burn should do it) and maybe fix inclination en route.

what that is trying to tell you is if you do not try and slow down and just let the craft travel thats where the crafts escapes the muns influence and the orange line will be your new orbit if you did nothing.

but since you want to land you can ignore it

also if you hover your mouse over the red PE symbol next to the mun it shows you how far from the surface you will be upon arriving, so what you can do is once you get an encounter, mouse over the PE  symbol  and gently thrust and see if the  numbers goes up or down. if it goes up  just turn the other direction and test it again.

lets say neither retrograde or pro grade work that means your orbit is crooked and youll need to use the symbols that look like triangles.

This is perfectly normal. Most of the time, an intercept trajectory will be an escape trajectory unless you're aerobraking. In other words, when you reach the target body's SOI, you'll almost certainly be traveling at escape velocity. The "predicted path" which shows "Mun escape" is provided you do not burn to change your trajectory. Once you're in the Mun's SOI, just burn retrograde at periapsis to bring the craft from escape trajectory into an orbit.

Maybe the poster wants a free return or something like he's seen on Apollo movies. 
You could also do that if that's the kind of moon encounter you were looking for.

Try to set the node in front (extra counterclockwise) to where you'd meet it with above hohmann transfer method. But burn a little extra Delta-V so you meet the moon at it's back where it's slingshots you clockwise. If you attain below maneuver setup you will land back at kerbin without course correction burns. Assuming floating point errors do not cause it to drift.

Kind difficult to say without knowing what you want to do. Is a science gathering mission? Are the craft going  to land on the Mun?  That trajectory would put you in orbit around the Mun, but different mission profiles have different 'ideal' trajectories.

Vanamonde's guide is very helpful. Take the time to read and understand it.
