Nortons rejecting KIS

Recommended Posts

I have the same problem with this and several other mod-related .dll files.  When you get the message that Norton has removed a file, bring up the details, then options,k and click the one to restore the file and exclude it from future scans.

Problem is, this only works that one time.  If you update the mod, deleting the previous version, you have to go through this again.

Perhaps, but I am quite new to this, so bear with me.

Shouldn't this have been posted in the KIS/KAS threads for the mods rather than creating a new thread?

The one I have the most irritation with is called something like ws.reputation.  It's in a  BUNCH of mods, apparently, and Norton requires each instance of it to be OK'd separately.

@EatVacuum  The dlls Norton is complaining about are bundled with many mods, so it's more of a general mod thing than a specific mod thing, hence warrants its own thread.  However, I think this thread would be better in a general add-on discussion topic than the mod release topic, where it would be more likely to be seen by multiple mod devs.

I use norton, and it is not a annoying for me. I haven't gotten any viruses or anything, ever. I think it's decent.

everyone is going to have a good experience  with any product. I manage ~800 nodes of antivirus for work across a range of small business clients. Overall in terms of actually catching viruses and most importantly "staying out of the way" norton ranks pretty low.  It isn't the best at catching viruses and its hogs more resources than many other options.  But if it works for by all means don't switch on my account.

It's not so much a specific file or dll that Norton reacts to, but rather that 'unusual' files have a higher risk of generating a false positive from their use of 'reputation scoring'.

So if you get a non-malware file getting trapped in this you shouldn't just restore it but also report it back to Norton as false positive.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
