Hey guys! I recently posted a status that I finished the first chapter of a superhero novel (Why do I take on so many projects), for NaNoWriMo next month. Bear in mind, at least the first half of the chapter needs work, but considering that this was written yesterday and finished today, I think it's pretty good. Anyway, tell me what you think :)

In the early 2020s, a biotech company seeks out 4 people to test their new technology on. Yuuto, a teenaged vigilante, Reese, a gifted athlete, Tyrone, a hard working student, and Nolan, a science major.
The 4 of them are brought to the company, and given unique abilities, with Yuuto leading them. But after a failed mission which ended with civilians getting killed, Yuuto must get the team properly trained after he finds out about a plot that could kill hundreds.
(Will be subject to getting altered in the future)

Chapter 1

Yuuto Sato quietly walked to his window, and snuck out, being careful to make as little noise as possible. He let it slide down quietly so he wouldn’t wake anyone up. It was almost midnight, and he needed to be at an abandoned building soon.

He took a swig of an energy drink when he was safely outside, and pulled on a mask to cover the lower half of his face, and a helmet to cover the rest. Yuuto looked around, and ran towards the city, keeping low to the ground, and making little noise. He had been doing this for a while, it didn’t make him very tired anymore. If anything, it was refreshing.

About ten minutes later, he was coming up to the edge of the city, and keeping out of site near the highway. After running for a while, he slowed to a stop behind a tree to stay out of sight. He waited a few minutes until there weren’t any nearby cars, and sprinted to the other side of the highway towards a large, abandoned industrial complex that no one was allowed to be.

Keeping as quiet as possible, Yuuto scaled a building, and ran to the opposite side of it to look at a couple people who seemed to be keeping watch.

One man had an assault rifle, and was looking around him quietly, while the other held a pistol, and paced around the front. The only thing that lit their faces was the light coming from the Moon. They didn’t talk to each other, and they would occasionally check their walkie talkies.

Yuuto descended from the building a few minutes later until he was about halfway down. Neither of the men noticed him, and he smiled to himself. He took a short baton out of his holster, and watched the pair quietly, after a few minutes, the man with the pistol started talking with the other man, and he knew that was his chance.

He descended a bit more, and when he was certain he wouldn’t get injured by jumping, he leapt down from his position, and rolled to the side. He jumped up, and threw the baton at one of the men in their throat, he dropped the rifle, and fell to the ground, clutching it in pain. Yuuto was on the other man within seconds. Before he could raise the pistol and pull the trigger, Yuuto had knocked it out of his hand.

The man tried punching him, but Yuuto caught his fist, and kneed him in the stomach, before punching him the face repeatedly until his nose broke. He walked over to the other man who was still clutching his throat, and kicked him in the face, knocking him out. He took the keys from him, and unlocked the door.

Yuuto cautiously opened it, expecting more guards, but there weren’t any. He quickly checked for cameras, but didn’t see any. He turned around and grabbed his baton before striding inside, and closing the door behind him.

His heart was still beating fast, and he could only hear the deafened sound of it. A single dim light lit the hall, and it flickered every few seconds. He tightened his grip on the baton, and walked down the corridor, listening for anything, or anyone, but the only thing he heard was static. When he got to the end, he could hear muffled voices from upstairs. He walked through the door, and walked up the stairs quickly.

The stairs had a layer of dust on them, broken up by the occasional footprint. When he made it to the second floor, he hid just behind the wall, and looked down. He saw a door open, with light coming out of it, and one past that which was shut with a padlock. Yuuto made sure there was no one around, and walked to the opened door until he could make out three distinct voices.

“The guys outside aren’t responding.”

“Eh, they’re probably just dicking around. Remember last week?”

“They should still be checked on.”

“Fine, fine. Go if you want to know so badly.”

Yuuto retreated to the stairs, and waited for one of the men to walk down. The door opened, flooding the hall with more light, and he could hear footsteps coming towards him. When the man turned the corner he jumped in surprise, and before he could yell out, Yuuto had pushed him down the stairs. Hitting the bottom with a loud thud a few seconds later.

The other two men ran out, one was short, and stocky, the other was taller, but less built. Yuuto ran over to them, engaging the two in hand to hand. They relied more on strength than precision, and Yuuto used that to knock them over quickly.

He broke the nose of the tall one, and almost knocked out the other. For a bitter couple minutes, they fought against him, getting back up, more exhausted than before. Yuuto spun in the air, and kicked the tall one in the head, knocking him out. He kicked the other one in the face when he was still on the ground.

When he was sure they wouldn’t get up, Yuuto entered the room. It was a mess, used pizza boxes laid haphazardly, and an old table with chairs in it was covered in used bottles. A microwave sat in the corner, and was surrounded by rat droppings. He wrinkled his nose in disgust, and looked around for the key to the padlock.

When he found it, he walked out, stuffed it in, and turned it unceremoniously, before throwing it aside. The room wasn’t lit, and was very small. He heard a small whimper, and looked down to a small girl huddled in the corner. When he bent down, the girl flinched in fear. She looked at him in terror, with dried tears covering her face.

Yuuto looked at her for a moment, and pulled his mask down, “Hey Kelly, your parents wanted me to find you,” he said in a soothing voice, the girl loosened up a bit, but still looked scared. “They said the safe word was ‘Party-house’ is that right?”

She relaxed a bit more and nodded, and he smiled a bit. “Well Kelly, I don’t think we should keep them waiting, will you come with me?” she stared at him for a moment, and slowly reached up to him.

Yuuto picked her up, she was very light, probably from malnourishment, and her clothes were tattered. Yuuto walked out with her, not caring whether or not he stepped on the two men as he made his way over.

He was careful to make sure no one would attack them as he made his way down, and was relieved that they were all still unconsciousness. He set Kelly down, pulled his mask back up, and tied the two men outside to an old platform next to the building, before blocking the front door with a bar.

When he was finished, he pulled out a burner phone and called 911 before picking Kelly up and walking away.

Yuuto made his way to the city cautiously, and talked to her to keep her calm. Almost half an hour later, they were back at the edge of the city, and near one of the outlining neighborhoods.

“We’re almost there Kelly,” he said. She nodded into his shoulder, going in and out of sleep. When he made his way to the edge of the houses, he made sure no one was watching, and set down the street. He muttered to himself, repeating the address, about seven houses down, he found it, and turned on the driveway. The porch light was still on, and he could see the living room light too.

“We’re here,” he said quietly. Kelly looked up, still tired, but her eyes brightened. He smiled, and knocked on the door, five times, then two times, then five times again. He could hear a couple people running, and the door swung open.

“Mommy, Daddy,” she said quietly, reaching her arms out, her dad took her from Yuuto’s arms and hugged her tightly, kissing the top of her head, her mother embraced both of them, and they were both sobbing in relief.

Kelly’s mom pulled away, and turned to Yuuto, “Thank you, thank you so much,” she said, chocking on her sobs.

“Don’t mention it,” he said in a deep voice, waving it off, “You be safe. Good bye Kelly.” He said, giving her a small wave.

She smiled, and waved back, “Thank you.” Yuuto spun around, and walked down the driveway, feeling happier than he had in days. Kelly’s parents shut the doors, and he made his way back home.

About forty minutes later, he slipped back inside his room, and took off his clothes quickly, stuffing them under his bed, before he slid under his blanket, and falling asleep almost instantly.

“Yuuto,” called out his mother, banging on the door, “Wake up!”

He groaned, and tossed the covers over his face, “I’m up,”

“You need to eat, get down here,” she said, before walking back to the kitchen.

Yuuto sighed, and rolled off the bed with a dull thud. He grabbed his clothes from the night before, and stuffed them in a secret compartment under his mattress. When he was done, he pulled out the cleanest shirt and pants he could find, and pulled them on.

He grabbed his backpack, and laundry basket, and headed to the kitchen. His mom looked around, seeing the basket, “Oh, finally, your clothes are filthy, but them in the wash, they’ll be done when you get back, but you’ll fold them.”

“Alright mother,” he said, trying to sound more awake than he was. He dropped his backpack next to the counter, and walked to the laundry room. He put his clothes in the washer and started it. When he walked back to the kitchen, his mother had laid a plate of eggs and a bagel out for him. He sat down, and spread the cream cheese on the bagel, eating his breakfast ravenously.

His mother ticked at that, but didn’t make any comment. When he finished, he hugged her goodbye, and slung his backpack over his shoulder. “Bye, see you later,” he said to her, Yuuto closed the door behind him, and walked down the stairs, and exited the apartment.

It was early, the morning dew had barely started to evaporate, and the sun hung low and bright in the sky. A few minutes later, he made his way to the bus stop at the corner, and waited for the school bus.

Yuuto breathed in the crisp, cool air, and looked at a bruise that had formed on his arm. He didn’t worry about it for long though. Within a couple minutes, the bus had pulled up, with a bunch of loud teens. No one tried messing with him, since he once threw a kid in the lockers. He didn’t mean too, but he was stressed that day. Since then, nobody touched him.

He took an empty seat at the back, and pulled out his book, trying to drown out the noise. A few minutes later, the bus stopped again, and a couple boys sat down next to him.

“Hey Yuuto,” said Derrick, he lowered his voice, “Hey, that girl last night, was-” Yuuto nodded, and set his book down.

“Nice,” said Derrick’s boyfriend, Sebastian, pretending to focus on his book. “Five guys in one night,”

“Yep,” replied Yuuto, still quiet, “Tired as hell though.”

“You skipping tonight to sleep?” Derrick asked.

“Probably, I’m going to be doing something important tomorrow. Do we have any tests today?” Yuuto asked.

“Nah, we’re good. I think we’ll be reviewing some stuff though.” Sebastian said.

“Okay good,” said Yuuto, laughing a bit, “Cause I didn’t do any homework last night.”

“Ah, sorry we couldn’t be your eyes and ears though.” Said Derrick.

“It’s good, nothing really spectacular I needed to avoid anyway.” He replied.

The bus stopped a few more times before it pulled up at the school, and the three of them walked off, and walked up the steps.

“Is there anything going on soon?” he asked when they got to the lockers.

“No, I don’t think so, there’s a few events, but you never go to those.” Replied Derrick.

“Okay, great.” He said, dumping his books in the locker, “See you guys at lunch,” he said over his shoulder, running to class.

After school was over, Yuuto said goodbye to Derrick and Sebastian, and walked out of the school. Traffic was at rush hour, so he decided to walk home instead, while making a stop at the ice cream parlor.

He was listening to music, and didn’t notice someone was following him. They advanced slowly, and kept his eyes on Yuuto. When there was no one around them, the man quickly pushed him into an alleyway.

Yuuto tried screaming for help, but the man jabbed a needle into his arm, and covered his mouth before he could fully react. A van pulled up quickly, and a couple people stepped out to help get him in without notice before they sped off again.

Yuuto’s head buzzed. He couldn’t move, and was sitting upright in a bright room, where a couple people stared at him.

“What do you amazing persons (I was wondering if any of this was going to be censored xD) want?” he spat.
