Adding parts whilst in orbit.

In need of some help folks. Im having difficulty adding heavy parts (such as additional docking ports) to orbital ships and platforms.

I know i have to use an Engineer to do the engineering but in need of some help.

1. Is there a way of maintaining position whilst in EVA. My kerbals keep floating off into spce at the moment.

2. Why cant i handle heavy parts. Is there a way to move and add heavy parts to ships in orbit.

I'm assuming you're using KIS/KAS?

I've been getting into the habit of attaching hand rails first so the Kerbal can grab on before attaching the part.

To move heavier stuff, you just need more Kerbals in range.

1. Even the  tiniest difference in speed will quickly add up to large distances, and without mods, there is no way to zero the speed of a Kerbal on EVA. I put ladder pieces on my stations sometimes so I can have a kerbal grab them as handholds, though. Then I can park them briefly and switch back to them later. 

2. You can make a small tugboat craft to haul pieces. 

The docking rings on my example ship connect to parts and then fly them around and dock them.
