okay, ive fixed the problems, and straight off i notice thousands of bugs! my ships wont fire ANYTHING, the frigate wont drive, (engine occluded) and everything is broken in general! Yippee! Im not going to share anything, but since my ship wouldnt fire the frigate broke it in half in spectacular fashion. Broken AI is AMAZING! That said, had my ships actually hit anythin that boat woulda been ton apart, it was a bunch of mk3's and we saw how that went when I battled Earthlinger's stuff last year. Good match though! I'll try and resolve the issues soon.

Okay, any ideas on how big it should be? I have a 100m/21m carrier, but Im debating doubling the size. These carriers are actually not very part intensive, it's currently around 150 parts unarmed and with basic movement installed. (max speed 3m/s with around 10 Goliath engines, debating switching to vectors with inf fuel) and current armament plans involve adding as many 30 mm autocannons as possible.

Okay, It's complete for now, and I have just witnessed something incredible- or should it be 2? 1- Abrams cannons used as AAA, and 2. a huge slugfest between two 120m carriers :O 8 milleniums per broadside, a VLS system, and a 10 cannon broadside- AWESOME! Pics soon!

And stats- 131.2m long, around 33.5m wide, weighs 5887.648 tons, 356 parts. Max speed 20m/s about, armed with 7 AGM64s in a VLS, 8 amraams and 8 Aim-9s in turrets, 20 abrams cannons and 16 30mm autocannons in casemate mounts.

It's like 9 times more part effective than my destroyer, in a nutshell.

Vectors are part of the engine setup, they can go a while before switching to jets only (max speed there about 0.2 m/s)

Time for some lore! Because I felt like it was necessary

The Sanctuary Class Escort Carrier was designed in the days after the Great Fall Of Sidea. The remnants of the original Sidean Empire, now known as the Republic of Sidea, had lost almost all of it's naval projection abilities in the chaos caused by the Styx Dominion's (or was it the NAT?) nukes which had recentley fallen on the Elysian Empire (drawing some old Yt series in now, tell me if you want them removed) The Sideans needed a simple but powerful vessel, cheap and easy to build. Thus came the Sanctuary Project. At first, the lead designers considered gunships- those of the likes of today's Titan Class Superdreadnoughts. These proved too complicated, and the same was considered of almost every other idea presented. The problem was armor. All of those designs had to face enemy fire, and the armor of the time was very complicated. Layers upon layers of components had to be made, and sustaining such designs was impossible for the young Republic.

There seemed to be no solution.

Then- an idea! Excitedly the scientists and engineers of the Sanctuary Project presented it to their masters. An aircraft carrier- the first of it's kind. It would not have to engage directly in combat, and it's size would not be a problem. The Sanctuary Class Carriers were born. They had no armaments, no speed, only loads upon loads of aircraft, experimental Starfury hypersonic fighters. This design would be upgraded countless times.

Today, dozens of Sanctuary carriers exist. They have been long replaced the Storm Class Supercarriers and the Leviathan Class Megadreadnoughts in the line of battle, but are still maintained as formidable warships of their own. The old issue of armor has been solved and is now much better than much other warships, though the new system is only practical for carriers. The old massive building blocks now provide layers upon layers of defense, stopping dozens of rounds before failing. They are now named with the prefix SEC- and differentiated by a number, but named Sanctuaries still exist. The original 3 units, SEC-001 Avalon, SEC-002 Elysium, and SEC-003 Valhalla have survived through the decades, and retain both their names and their numbers as a mark of honor. Today's Sanctuary Carriers act as patrol units. However, there have been new activities stirring in the seas of Kerbin. New nations and corporations arise, and the Sanctuaries of the SRNC may be called once again to the lines of battle, leading the first responders of the SRNC into what may become a desperate new war.

It's aesthetically sleek, fast for its size, and those guns :O

Though, since Tweakscale is allowed, you should perhaps consider armoring the landing deck. Though I guess those massive MK3 parts already have pretty high impact tolerances...

Well you seem to have an entire book thought out there. You should write a mini series or fanfic based on that lore....if you haven't already ;)

I'm reserving Tweakscale for the Storm and Leviathan classes of warships- it's a whole new level of technology! Too complicated for the simple Sanctuaries :P

There are issues though with protection, if a single torpedo gets through it detonates the magazines, freezing the computer up fir many tense seconds while the whole vessel splits apart. Though I bet that that's just KSP giving up on calculating all the damage and just releasing hell upon the ship.

I have figured out the issue, it's that the merged mk3's really don't play well with each other. They sit niceley, but if knocked around, they try to escape, flinging each other away. ive had exactly ONE instance where the carrier survived this, and it was ugly. Struts apparently break under the force of violent detonation. On the other hand, I decided that 16 milleniums was not enough, so now they are in quad mounts and there are 3 more quad mounts. that beings us to a total of 44. Also, the AGM-64's have been replaced with AMRAAMs. though much prettier, they refused to target, so i have a very ugly but very plentiful battery of Aim-120s.

@Sidestrafe2462Its quite the shame that we don't run the same versions of KSP, otherwise a battle between My HMS Titania and your latest craft would have been of epic proportions! Your cannons would struggle against the armour standing at 550mm thick at thinnest point, withstands a barrage or two to say the least, and it certainly isn't lacking in the trouser department neither with 45 KV-1 missles, two FAE Type III Model V 300mm Dual cannons.

Which version are you running? all of my old crafts have been deleted but I used to have the Titan Class Battleships on hand.

Also the cannons- 300mm? NANI?

300 is still smaller than a secret ship I got. I run 1.3.1 and 1.2.2
