How do I update KSP?

Recommended Posts

So I've found this neat trick in KSP, where you copy the KSP file from STEAM (where I got it), and then you can have multiple installs (I.e. modded, unmodded, ultra-modded, etc.). This has worked for some time now for me. However, I've got a big problem. I'm part of a KSP RP, and we've got a mod pack, which works in 1.3.1. I installed the original modpack in 1.3.0, but now only 1.3.1 mods work with the pack. How do I update my KSP without making a new folder?

Your trick is a good one that almost everybody here does, so that's good so far.

Beyond that, I'm confused. So you have a copy of unmodded 1.3.1 in a folder? Your current folder is 1.3.1 and modded, but not all the mods work? You want to downgrade it back to 1.3.0 so all the mods work again? Is that it? And you don't have an unmodded copy of 1.3.0 saved in a folder?

I have a copy of a modded folder for 1.3.0, and I want it to get to 1.3.1 so the current mods work properly.

OK, move it so that is your active Steam folder. (Maybe copying is better -- always nice to have an extra saved copy for saftety.)

In your steam Library, right click on KSP. Select Properties. Select the Files tab. Select "Perform File Validation".

It will analyze all the stock files in the game, and carefully update only the ones that are not at the current version. Then it will semi-secretly download and install them all while showing you a screen saying how many files need to be downloaded.

You can re-validate them again after that is done, and it should say "zero files need to be updated".

-- One other thing to note if you use MK3 parts. Something funny happened to the MK3 to 2.5M adapter and it changed color. So it's best to grab the old copy of that file from 1.3.0 if you care about color.

Thank you so much; I'll try it out.

Alternatively, if you want to try the brute-force approach, you can just take a complete unmodded copy of 1.3.1 and copy it on top of the modded game. That is supposed to always work.
