Can I move the mods folder to another to another hard drive?

Recommended Posts

Basically, in my computer, I have two drives, my computer drive, (Which holds only 118 GB) and a data drive. Is it possible to move the gamedata folder to the data drive, and still have the game work?

Actually, if you are familiar with symbolic links, you can move stuff out of GameData, and replace it with a link that points to its new home (on Windows at least).  I do this to keep all of my in-development mods synched into my live development KSP install.  The repositories are located on a separate hard-drive from the KSP install, and only symbolic links are present in GameData pointing to the actual locations.

The CMD for this is (must be run as administrator)

mklink /d <link> <targetPath>

Edit:  I have no idea if this can be applied to the entire GameData folder.  Maybe... maybe not.  In theory it should work, but I have not tried it in practice.
