All my presents were clothes. Except the one I threw into the exchange and then got back out (a hardware store gift card).

Well, except for the family present which will arrive on the morrow: a welder. I'll be learning how to TIG and stick weld on it, and then my dad and I will begin working down the list of "if only we had a welder" projects.
It's a very long list. At the top are "welding equipment cart" and "suntracking frame for the Lens."

I'm quite excited about finally building a proper frame for the Lens. It's the screen off a 60" projection TV. Roughly a kilowatt-thermal with a spot size of about a centimeter in radius when properly focused. Focusing it properly is difficult with my current setup (a couple of conduits and some cinder blocks), so I'm expecting great things once the Lens is rigid and pointed directly at the sun. I may be able to do more than melt copper and boil zinc with it then. I'll be driving it with some big 4A stepper motors I pulled out of an impact printer the other day.

Well at least you can use it to stay warm... or put it under tons and tons and tons of pressure and heat and make a diamond and then sell it and become rich... then buy more coal to keep warm.

I got pretty much exclusively kitchen supplies, after my family got wind of my efforts at cooking serious food in a minimal kitchen. Which I think is fantastic. There's nothing quite as annoying as crushing an entire bulb of garlic by hand. Unless it's mixing the dough for a pie crust with one's hands. Or mashing potatoes using a fork.

Mainly some legos (I love legos), but I also got a first edition book! It's the awesome story about a marine and his dog he found on duty in Afghanistan. Actually a really good book- Craig and Fred if you guys get the chance to find it at a book store. Overall not a bad couple of days. Oh, I forgot the family gifts.

The family got a new wii (The old one wouldn't read discs), so now I can play baseball! We also got a sound system and a new Blue Ray player (Our old one literally died mid-Alfred Hitchcock (Oooh spooky)), and so we got one of those too.

Weather on the other hand was brutal. At most, 20º for much of the week (Except yesterday, which was a balmy 45).
